Is there anyone else out there allergic to a ton of medicines, especially antibiotics?? I am allergice to at least 5 different drugs and now I think I am starting to have yet another reaction to another antibiotic! It is to the point where there isn't too much I can take and I was wondering if I was in the minority.

My DS had a severe hive allergic reaction to an antibiotic about 5 years ago. He was 10 a the time. It was awful and the hives kept breaking out for about 2 weeks. The doctor then had trouble finding an anitbiotic to which he did not have an allergic reaction of some kind. So I was getting very nervous that he was becoming allergic to ALL antibiotics. However, when he had strep throat this past winter, they put him on a lower, more frequent dose of erythromycin, and that worked without producing any reaction. But we have to watch him very carefully.

He also has allergy induced asthma  .

I have a lot of problems taking antibiotics but I'm not sure if it's because of allergic reactions. I get a lot of bladder infections and kidney infections.:(

My dd is she was on antibotics from birth and she has had reactions too alot of them and now their is only a few she can take. the drs hate it when she gets an infection.

I'm allergic to most antibiotics and those that don't break me out in a rash and swell my face up give me the scoots!:o

Sulfa---Took it-- had to rush to ER get 4 shots and stay on steriods for the next 5 days-- I had a severe reaction. My body started breaking out in welts and I my eyes and nose got all runny as well as my throat started getting very thick. There's a few others that give me the hives and itching, but nothing like the sulfa.

I am allergic to sulfa. My DD is allergic to sulfa, amoxicillan, augmentin, ceclor, pediozole, and I'm sure I'm leaving some out. My DS, who is allergic to a few foods, is not allergic to any meds. Go figure.

I too am allergic to penicillin and erthromycin. So far all they ever give me is keflex. The drs. hate it too when I am sick. They always say, there is very little we can give you. Those stickers are always over my charts and its worse in the hosp. What do they give you?

Can't take penicillin--lsat dose gave me head to toe hives for three days. Another dose would probably turn my lights out.

They tried mycins on me and I got an itchy rash on last day, so those are out. I have not taken (nor needed to) antibiotics for about ten years. I hope there will be something effective if and when I do need them again.

Penicillin, erythromycin, reglan, sulfa drugs, ibuprofen - and a whole laundry list of others I can't take..

DD is like me as well - many, many meds she is allergic to or can't take due to severe reactions..

My ds is allergic to many antibiotics too. He hasn't reacted to Ceclor so that's what we're sticking to right now. Knock on wood, he hasn't needed an antibiotic in about six months.

My son had been on Ceclor for all his infections - worked great until he got the "sister" to Ceclor and was put of Cefzil - BIG mistake - the most violent reaction I have ever seen in my life - he was completely covered and his ears and lips swollen - I'm just thankful it didn't swell his throat. I don't feel I can risk "trying it again" so I went ahead and bought him a MedicAlert bracelet - maybe I'm erring on the side of caution but if it swelled those parts of his body, I'm terrfied the "next time" it could be his throat and he's too precious to me to risk that.

As a word of caution, even if you've never had a problem with something before, it doesn't mean you can't develop an allergy down the road - it happened to us and we had never had a problem before!

You should have seen me when I had taken my antibiotics for strep right before my junior prom...I blew up into a giant red puff, like hives that just wouldn't go away. It was weird because I had been taken similar medication before for years because of ear infections but never had a problem. It finally caught up to me. Sulfa and amoxicillan just don't do it for me either.

I've been told I'm "sensitive" to antibiotics. In other words they send my stomach reeling. I'm dealing with this today. This morning I had stomach cramps and nausea and vertigo. I hate meds that are supposed to make you feel better and cause a different problem.

Wow, there seems to be a lot of folks in the same boat as I am. I didn't realize so many people were sensitive.
