We used Allegiant Air to fly to Des Moines this last week, and flew back from So Bend, IN. (Departed and returned to Sanford/Orlando Intn'l Airport.)
We don't use specific carriers. Just whoever has the best price and flight times to suit our needs.
Here is what I found out by using Allegiant.
Allegiant prices are great. But they are also VERY limited on days coming and going. And in our case the return flight from Des Moines was booked solid, and they were not even accepting names for stand by. (What was going on last Thursday where so many were flying from Des Moines to Sanford? MLKJ weekend? :confused3 )
Book ahead of time. We had to book last minute (funeral) and paid much more and had a lot less selection on flight availability.
Due to waiting just a few days to decide where to fly from, our return flight price rose significantly.
Again, great prices. But they charge their travelers even beyond the flying fee. I think they charged per checked bag, if I recall correct. Plus, there was an additional fee per person if you pre-selected your own seat. (I think it was $11 pp, and we passed.)
On board travelers can have beverages and snacks. But there is a price for EVERYTHING, and selection is limited. They don't appear to stock up heavily with what they do have. Pepsi/Diet Pepsi $2 a can.
Both our flights were delayed 45 minutes. The second time was simply because they lacked baggage handlers to load the baggage onto the plane! One stewardess just said no one wants to work weekends. :confused3
A real no frills flight. Nothing wrong with it. Just a little heads up for anyone wanting to book Allegiant. I would use them again. Flying Non Stop into the midwest was terrific! It's only a 2 hour flight from So Bend, and around 2.5 hours from Des Moines.
Those in the midwest -- you are just a few hours from the World, and at a reasonable price if you book ahead and the days suit you... :cheer2:
