AllEars Reporting NEW Restaurants to AK and DD

I wonder if the "Rainforest Cafe" isn't over represented in WDW. Maybe since the one in DTD is shaped like a valcano and it is old enough to need a rehab, maybe they are just going to re do that one with the Dino theme? Yup, I'm stretching because I do not want to have to put a pith helmet on any of the dinos and after the fourth drink begin telling bawdy jokes and singing. :scared:

That would be great - two themed restaurants in DTD, both with animatronic animals - since they're both be by the company that built the Rainforest Cafe, you know the food will be good!

Sorry, but I think the RFC is cheesy and I don't care for the food either. I can imagine how tacky a dinosaur version is going to be. Also, I hate to see them tear out one of the PI clubs for something that's probably going to appeal mostly to children. As for the Asian one, I hate to see another restaurant operated by an outside company inside a Disney theme park. Asia already has McDonald's fries, Dinoland has McDonald's fries and chicken mcnuggets.

Both restaurants will be operated by Landry's Restaurants which operate the Rainforest Cafes.

You had me all the way until you posted this. Aww Man. Although I guess I can hope they do the others better than they do the Rain Forest.

I think the food is mediocre quality for undeserved prices.

We went about 3 times within 6 months when ours opened. I thought the same exact thing. I thought the food good (depending upon what you got) the portions below average and the value overall just average or even below average. My wife says we can go out for half the price, enjoy our meal more, and donate the other half to rainforest relief organizations and end up both donating more and enjoying ourselves more.

While I am always glad to hear about any new TS restaurants, I'm with those who hope these two ( if they are actually built) won't be anything like Rainforest.
Interesting--I guess--that they both are "non-Disney". Perhaps a trend????

What's really a shame is that this indicates what the preferences are of the general public. They're not going to invest in building new restaurants to serve fine food, because there are so few of us willing to pay a high-enough premium for it. So we end up with more mediocre crap, because the vast majority of folks are driven solely by price.

We saw the article in the Orlando paper yesterday. I hope the time frame was on the conserative side because it would be nice to have a sit down place in AK.

It's amazing how the reviews differ about RFC!

I personally LOVE it, I had good experiences in all the RFCs I went to! (Southcoast Plaza (CA), Grapevine (TX), Disneyland Paris, London) I really liked the food, the portions were HUGE, service was good, atmosphere was the best!

According to the Orlando Business Journal. The Animal Kingdom one will open in 2007 and will be a "fusion" asian place. The T-Rex will open in 2008. The Landry group bought the T-Rex concept (and maybe the asian concept) from the same guy that founded Rainforest Cafe.

When I first read about this yesterday, I immediatetly thought that were just going to refurbish the existing Rain Forest and update the theming but all of the articles indicate this going to be a new place.

A thought just occurred to me is the place that used to be the Country Western bar in Pleasure Island still being used. I know they shut down as country western place but later opened as a different type of place. That could be one option.

I wish it would open sooner, Disney NEEDS an indian restaurant, I'm amazed its got by for so long without one! Us Brits can't be expected to last a fortnight without a decent curry :rotfl2:

isn't that the truth!
We went to RFC once, mainly for DD - but it was overpriced for horrible food!
