My daughter is going to London in 2 weeks - my parents are taking her as a HS graduation present. She's very excited but the problem is she is also terrified to fly. She has never been on a plane. I've never been on one either so I can't help her. Anyone have any tips on making the flight easier for her - I'm afraid she's going to get to the airport and have a melt down! She absolutely can't back out of the trip and I wouldn't want her to!! It's a great opportunity! Any tips or pointers you can provide will be greatly appreciated!! I've thought about dosing her up with tylenol PM and hoping she'll sleep most of the way (it's a night flight) .. help!!!

I would ask her pediatrician/doctor if there is something other than tylenol that will calm her nerves for the flight only. I believe there are some milder things than tranquilizers for a person of her age.

Good luck. I know she will have a wonderful time in London!

I remember at one point on this forum someone had posted a website done by a pilot about overcoming a fear of flying. It was full of great info. I just did a quick search on google and found some info but not the one I had seen before. You might want to check google though, some of the sites had lots of good basic info.

Hmmmm-let's see:

Stock her up with a 'Flying Kit' (don't want to call it a Survival Kit if she is nervous about flying)

Earplanes if you think she will have any problems with her ears and pain and pressure

A (sealed) bottle or two of water. It's a long long flight, and planes are notoriuously dry, gotta keep her hydrated.

Books, Magazines, etc. Maybe some London Travel Guides that she has not seen yet.

Walkman/Discman and some favorite music

A notebook/journal for her to start recording her adventures in..

Basically anything that will help keep her occupied.

I would also check with her Dr. to see if there is anything that they would be able to give her if she thinks she will need it.

Oh, and you can tell her I am INSANELY jealous! :teeth:
