This will be our first time staying at the Dolphin. After reading all the great reviews I am very excited:bounce: :bounce:
Now here is my question...my husband is a Fed. Gov. Emp. so I can attempt to book the $129.00 rate. Will I be VERY disapointed with a standard view. I am not sure we have the extra$ in the budget to upgrade to a preferred view. Please help. Thanks.

Make sure you join Starwood Preferred (free)...if they have an upgraded view, they usually give it to SPG members...good luck...if you want an upgrade guaranteed, the best way to do it is pay for it...

I haven't heard of anyone yet, being disappointed with their view from the Dolphin. Yes, most people like the Epcot/MGM/BW view best, but I've heard that others have even seen MK from the other side of Dolphin.

For the price of $129, you really can't go wrong with any room, but I'm sure you'll get a view you enjoy. If not, just ask to be moved. There are soooo many rooms there, they'll probably be able to come up with something else.

We absolutely love Dolphin and have been lucky enough to be upgraded, for free, both times as were our friends who also went on the $129 rate. Have a great time, you'll love it.

I can't imagine you being upset with a standard room. They are still lovely. True, you shoud join Starwood Preferred (why not, it's free!) They seem to like that there, even if there are no upgrades, and I would request Epcot view. A fellow teacher was at the Dolphin the same time that I was and she was on the first floor, same type of room, but a pleasant view of the bay and boats going by.

Thank you everybody for all your help. I really wasn't looking for a free upgrade, I just wanted to know what I would be in for since I have never stayed there before.
Also, how do I join Starwood? Thanks again!!

We actually reserved a balcony room, park view for the $179.00 rate, and received a ground floor standard view room for $129.00. Our room reservation was made one year prior to our arrival, and I checked/confirmed our reservation about every 3 to 4 months. We checked in on Good Friday, and were told that the hotel was completely sold out and this was all they could offer us. DH and I also had a suite reserved, which was right beside the single room, and we were in a corner on the bottom floor. Due to the way the building is designed, our windows were obstructed diagonally. While the ground floor is convenient - no long wait for elevators, walk right out to the transportation area, this was not what we reserved and paid a deposit for. The rooms were very clean and nice. It's also a good idea to check your room charges before checking out - we were charged for a refrigerator that was never received.

I'm a certified teacher and got the same rate. We joined Starwood and came with a standard, limited view room. I kindly asked if there were any upgrades available. Well, to say the least, we got the 16th floor, room 16109 and overlooked the Swan and the boat launch and Boardwalk. World Showcase was to the left about 45 degrees. Wow!

It does happen.

If you have time, grab a coffee and stop by our site....we have around 50 Dolphin pictures that'll get you excited about your trip.

Wedway72,

Your pictures are fantastic. Thanks for putting them up. We are staying at the Dolphin this summer and was very happy to see all the pictures.

Hi,

I stayed at the Dolphin last summer in a standard room and had no problem with it at all. I also had hoped to get an upgrade and had joined Starwood ahead of time, but I didn't expect it and wasn't disappointed in not getting it.

The room we had was directly overlooking the Grotto pool area right underneath the dolphin - we were on the 7th floor, but I forget the exact room number. We didn't see Epcot, but the pool was nice to look at and we could see MGM at night. Maybe if no upgrade is available, you could ask for a room overlooking the pool area.

Someone else already said it, but it bears repeating . . . Thanks for the pictures! They were fabulous. I can't wait to see the Dolphin for myself.

I was particularly interested in the view from the room you stayed in -- 16109, right? I was trying to decide whether to pay the extra bucks for an Epcot view, but I thought that this "standard" view was pretty impressive. I think I'll go standard and eat some nice meals with the savings. Thanks again.
