Hi everyone:wave2:
This semester we have a huge project in which each group needs to do a 30 min teaching lesson ..Our topic is violence in schools...We are meeting again tomorrow and i need to have a paper filled with statistics and methods to prevent violence in school....Im trying to find statistics that arent the same stuff you see everywhere..maybe like comparing region to region...state to state, or anything else thats not just from years ago till now..
So my first question is if anyone has good ideas for that ..or any good websites..

my second one is the creative part :) We are handed this out to our entire class, so i am trying to think of something a little different..maybe adding clipart having to do with vioence? or a border? After that im lost.any ideas?? thanks!!

Wow. I'm usually very creative in the school assignment department since I just graduated w/ an Elemtary degree several years ago and had such projects myself. But this issue is so much more difficult since it has such a serious and important topic. I think it would be a horrible idea to cutesify it as I did in my past projects. So you don't want any of my ideas. I wouldn't know how to make it more creative but I will keep thinking and get back to you if I can come up w/ something. :(

Thanks guys--thats my problem, i am used to doing the cute stuff..glitter and all of that...it just doesnt seem appropriate...i just talked to one of my group members and she suggested i just get a bunch of stats and then maybe the group can help too..if you have any other ideas, let me konw--thanks so much

Well.. How about this for a website

An idea for the handout would be a border with website names or phone numbers for places to research (or if you are in high school have resources to personally get help). You could also include in the border pertinent facts and figures. Maybe it is too stark, so check with your teacher to see if it would hurt your grade (not creative enough) before actually doing it.

Hope that helps.

How about adding a section called "What Can I Do Right Away?" which contains information on local agencies and programs who need volunteers, contributions, etc. I got involved with a local shelter for teens and they needed really basic stuff - sheets and linens, old computers, personal care products, etc. I'm sure there are local agencies who devote specific efforts to this area and could use money or other donations. Your classmates may appreciate it if include info on how they can take some positive action.

microcell--that website is great..thank you

swanmom--thats a great idea...can i just find this stuff online?

I'm sure you could find some online but I'd also get on the phone. Call the DARE police officer in your town, the red cross, the department of social services for your county, a juvenille court officer or even a social worker in your local hospital would have the names of agencies to which they refer families. I guess this is the creative part! Think who would come into contract with these kids and their families. Then ask them what agencies or programs they rely on. I'll bet if you call the agencies they'll have plenty of ways that people can help,

How about this for a different twist. Our local tv station is doing a unit on schoolyard bullies: schoolyard bullies They'll probably post a transcript of their entire story on Monday. It would be a start. I wonder how many of these young bullies end up being violent as they get older?
