New Smoke-Free Policy

All Walt Disney World® Resorts, including Disney Vacation Club Resorts, will become smoke-free on June 1, 2007. During the past five years Guest demand for smoking rooms has been declining steadily. Currently, less than 3.5 percent of Walt Disney World's 24,000 resort rooms are smoking optional.

The new policy applies to all guest rooms, patios, and balconies, and designates outdoor smoking areas at all resorts affected by the change. Smoking is currently prohibited in all lobbies, restaurants, and convention spaces. This policy will allow us to better accommodate the large numbers of Members who request non-smoking accommodations and complements our efforts to provide our Guests with the healthy living options they are requesting.

This is not a topic for debate or discussion on the resorts board.

Nobody will change anyone's mind; it just serves to angry up the blood as Grandpa Simpson would say.

The policy decision has been made and for those who wish to debate it, take it to private PMs. If you agree OR disagree with the policy, I'd like to point out your interests are best served by writing the Walt Disney Company directly :

I just heard from AKL on other matters but also found out the following in regards to the new smoking policy.

They will have two designated smoking areas. While they knew the areas they did not know specifically where within that area it would be located.

one area will be located somewhere at the front of the resort

and

the 2nd area will be located somewhere near the pool bar.

So now you know where to go or not to go depending on your preferences.

This is for informational purposes only - so please do not turn this into a debate!!!!!!!

This is to let you know that every single thread that has been started on the resorts board to discuss Disney's smoking policy has required the moderators to close it when it turned into a debate, fight or name calling thread.

The moderators have a sticky thread at the top of the resort board to post any official information that needs to be communicated.

Be forwarned - there is a thread on the community board to discuss this topic all you want. This topic will no longer be allowed on the resorts board.

Anyone starting a thread on resorts that deals with Disney's smokiing policy will receive one infraction warning. If they insist on starting another they will receive an infraction for starting a previously closed thread. This infraction carries a 30 point penalty

Please review the posting guidelines for all the information about infractions.

11. INFRACTIONS:
Title--------------------------Points----------Expires

Restarting a closed thread-------30-----------30 Day(s)

Penalties:
40 points - Unable to send private messages and cannot have a signature until the points expire
60 points - 10 day ban

100 points - Permanent ban

We are sorry that we are required to do this. but the situation has become intolerable.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to contact any of the webmasters via email or PM.

Thank you Mary 2e.

I just received a fax from guest services at the Poly with the new smoking locations on it. It's a little tough to see because of the dark areas, but here's the best I can tell from it:

Every building has its own smoking area outside one of the entrances with the exception of Tahiti, where it appears to be closer to the walkway to the TTC and the Hawaii/Tokeleau buildings which seem to have it not too far from the quiet pool. Rarotonga also seems to use the one near the Tangaroa terrace, though it doesn't seem to far from thei Niue site at the other end of the building

In addition, both pool areas have a smoking area as well as the GCH and Luau Cove.

Thanks to michygoomy

I just called POP and they said there are two designated smoking areas: 1.) near the pool bar and 2.) on a walkway near the main building.

I have acquired a PDF file for each of the resorts & DVC properties showing the designated smoking locations.

Trekker and I are in the process of uploading these and preparing them for posting.

They should be ready in the next day or so.

Thank you!
