I have been to the Walt Disney World Resort and stayed on-property four times and have never been to Universal,IOA,etc.Has anyone else never left WDW on trips and how many trips have you made to WDW?I am just wondering if it is "unusual" to never go to any of the other attractions in the WDW area.Am I the only one? :guilty: :D

We went to Universal for a day last trip. I think MANY people go to some other attractions when they are at WDW. I've seen this many times in trip reports.
This next trip we are just doing Disney.

We did IOA & Universal last year, as a separate trip along with Sea World. They are neat parks to visit, but I would only do if you are going to stay at the Universal Hotels on property. That gives you front of the line pass to the rides, which makes it very enjoyable.

We are AP holders at both WDW and US/IOA, so we visit all of them! Usually not all in one trip though.

You are not the only one!! :cool1:
We did other parks back when we went on trips before we had our DD6. The trips we made with my older DD when she was between the ages 10-14 always included Universal &/or Seaworld. But my DD6 is so in love with WDW (just like her mother! :earboy2: ) so we just stay at WDW the entire time. We will probably add the other theme parks as she gets older.

We have been about 12 times in the last 4 years for 4 -10 days each time and have never left Disney property. We keep saying we are going to take a trip to Universal or Sea World, but just can't seem to do it!

I have been 10 times to the World and only left one time. My brother was living in Tampa at the time so we drove there and went to Busch Gardens. The whole day I couldn't wait to get back to Disney World. I don't like being away when I am there. Plus, there is so much to do and see there.

For years, we never went anywhere but WDW when vacationing there. Even now, it still feels somehow "wrong" to leave property (like I'm cheating on WDW or something :p ), but I've done so the past 2 visits because the group I was accompanying (a few handicapped adults and one of the adults' mothers) really wanted to go to Universal for a day trip. Snore. Well, OK, Islands of Adventure was cool for what it is and does offer something WDW doesn't, which is a thrill just for thrill's sake, but after having been spoiled by Disney for so many years, the atmosphere anywhere else just can't compare.

Every trip we dont' go off property. I'm sure there are plenty of wonderful places but I go to Orlando for Disney.

When my family would go to florida we would go for 2 weeks...the first week we would spend on the ocean usually Cocoa Beach or Vero Beach

Second week would be WDW....we would turn in our rental car and go to WDW...no car, we would not leave the property the entire week. IT was actually nice because I felt like I was in a whole different world...detached from reality...a real VACATION!

We've been 19 times and have never been off property. One of these days, I'd like to go to the Disney Wilderness Preserve, which is about an hour away, but still Disney. Would that count as "off property"? If not, I don't see us ever having any desire to go off-property.

I would have to agree with some of the replies here. It can be much fun if you like thrill rides. I personally do not care for them so I did not like leaving Disney to go to Universal. I can find way too much to do in Disney.

:groom:

We usually go, park the car at our WDW Resort and don't see it again until the end of the trip. Last summer we went only to Universal and IOA. It almost killed me to leave Orlando without seeing the Mouse! (I did sneek in a breakfast at Chef Mickey's the morning we left.)

We went to both WDW and IOA/US our first trip... ever since then it's only WDW. :cool1:

Me...me...me We have been to Central Florida for vacation five times and the only time we left property was on this most recent trip when we went to church on Sunday and ate brunch off-property. I think we may try to do one day at IOA on our next trip (whenever that may be), but then again maybe not.

Wow, I'm amazed, lol. I can't imagine going anywhere and not acually checking it all out. We've been 3 times, been to WDW (3times), USF/IOA (3times) , Seaworld (once), Busch (this coming trip in Feb), Kissimee old town, did Int-drive one day (Ripleys, wonderworks, skull mountain, etc), and just drove around and checked Orlando out. Stayed onsite once and offsite the rest of the time....guess we like to try everything at least once :)

i go to florida for disney. stay on-site and never leave until going home.

We are all WDW all the time. Only once have we done Universal, that was back in early 90's. I went with my mom as I was still a teen. Needless to say we were not that impressed. Sure there were some neat rides but we were turned off by being able to "see" the "magic". You know workers carrying around their cash register trays and other stuff like that. Also the excess selling of beer every time you were standing in line.

So from then on it was all WDW all the time. And that is how I do it now with my family.

I have been to WDW about 40 times. I have only been to Universal once out of all of those trips. And that was only becuase I was with some friends that wanted to go. I still have never been to IOA or Sea World and don't have any plans to go in the near future. It is not that I have anything against all of the other things around Orlando, I just LOVE Disney. When I take a trip to Disney World, it doesn't matter how long I stay, it just never seems long enough to take a day away from Disney - whether it be the theme parks, water parks, DTD, or just hotel hopping. I just don't want to get away. I know that I can always go to a thrill park or Sea World since neither are too far away form me, maybe that's why I don't bother when I am in Florida. :flower1:

We never leave the World! To me, it would feel like I was "wasting" a day if we went anywhere other than to a Disney park. Driving in, the highways leading to WDW are so busy and cluttered, and practically scream "tourist trap". But, once you pass though the gates of Disney, everything is beautiful and peaceful, and you can instantly feel the magic. I think that's part of the reason I don't have much interest in Universal, and I know this will sound silly, but you can actually see the parks from the highway. That, right there, causes it to lose a lot for me. (I even feel that way about DL, even though I wouldn't turn down a trip if it was offered to me!) At WDW, it's like you've entered another world, and everything seems carefree and timeless. Why leave a place that makes you feel like that? :wizard:
