My DH got a new Go Pro today for our Fantasy a Cruise this Saturday. I didn't realize how small they are & that they require a handle type item to really hold them for the best grip/picture/video. The 1st thing I thought was it looks like a "selfie stick." I know that the "selfie sticks" aren't allowed in the parks, would this be allowed on the ship? It's not a "selfie stick," but it seems similar to me. We're not selfie people, it's more for better grip on the Go Pro.

EDIT 1/19/16: I'm getting such good info on Go Pro's in general & cool pics that I'm going to change the title to "All Things Go Pro on DCL." So we can keeping chatting & seeing these cool pics! Thanks everyone for sharing so many details!

I used an extendable handle (selfie stick type) last year with no issues. I actually prefer a smaller handle. Look at The Handler by GoPro. It floats too which makes it perfect for using while snorkeling or playing at the beach. I snapped some of our favorite shots of our last trip under water.

Here is a link to the handle I like.

If your husband will want to use his GoPro on the Aqua Duck he'll need a head or chest strap as they didn't allow hand held cameras.

Have fun.

DH actually bought this one for the water because it floats, this one didn't seem like a selfie stick, so I wasn't worried. It was the other one that worried me as it had a longer handle. DH really like that it had a tripod to use to elapsed videos. It looks like this:

DH is so excited about this Go Pro, we talked about getting one before our last cruise, but it had been our 1st cruise(we weren't sure what to expect) & had extra expenses like initial passports. I'm very interested to see how the pictures & videos turn out!

The only thing bad on this one per the reviews is that it doesn't float, is that true? Great price though. DH got the other one listed above that floats.
That's correct it does NOT float...We bought both a floating and non floating, the non-floating is much smaller and less clunky

This was the floating one we got, real nice very happy with it http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SIKN0NI?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s03

The goscope stuff seems to be very nice compared to some other junk I have used

Do you guys use a polarizing filter for your underwater shots/videos?

No we don't own one...I am no expert we just do it totally for fun (mainly the kids use it), Funny you ask that though, I have been thinking about grabbing one for the big camera

I don't use a filter on the GoPro. I have one on the DSLR but it's more to protect the lens from scratches than anything.

The real funny thing was that I was looking at the polarizing filters for my new Cannon Rebel camera & then saw filters for the Go Pro!!! Great minds.... :thumbsup2

Unless you are going down past about 15-20 feet you don't need one. Theres different ones for different water and conditions, but they are usually for divers. Snorkeling doesn't really pose that much of a water change.

Can can you wear a GoPro with a head strap on the aqua duck and or Atlantis? Does anyone know? Or would that be prohibited/unsafe?

You have to wear your GoPro with a head strap, chest strap, or wrist strap on the Aqua Duck. It has to be attached to you and not just handheld. I don't know about Atlantis.
