I never thought much about all the walking I am going to do at Disney World this summer (except for needed good shoes for everyone).

Well that was till this weekend. I dropped my car off for repair and went walking around stores for an hour and a half. Well, today my legs are killing me. :scared1: Hmmmmm - - I guess I better start going for walks to get my legs in shape for this trip.
:rolleyes1

Start walking soldier! truthfully a trip to Disney is far more walking than a day at the mall. I am a runner and walk 5 mi per day, and even I am wiped out and sore at disney. A few months before disney we start going into "training" and start doing daily walks in the evening and longer ones on weekends. It is because of these walks my 4 yr old did not require a stroller and was able to outpace us each day.

It looks as though you're arriving the day after we are. And that, like me, you're a teacher.

That means you have from the end of school until early August to get in shape. There's not much point in trying between now and the end of school; I know I plan to hit the ground running when school resumes next week and not come up for air until June.

But the end of June and early July and it's time to get walking!

Also, as a PS. Last year I brought a pair of Teva Mush Flip Flops I got at www.sierratradingpost.com They were the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. I walked all over Disney in them, after being sure I would wear sneakers all day.

I have tried walking during a school year before, but never kept it going more than a week :(

Between the IEP's, Report Cards, State Assessment, and last minute Evaluations I need to find time to actually teach. My goal till school is out is just to survive. :teacher:

I never really liked walking (was a cross country runner till my health stopped that), but for Disney I am sure I can put up with it. I know my doctor will like it if I start walking again too.

Now I just have to figure out what distance I should get myself up to before the trip.

I seem to have way too much energy when I'm at WDW.

I didn't do any extra exersise before our trip. When everyone was strolling out of the park at night I was walking fast.

I think it was all the extra diet pop I was drinking!

The right shoes make a world of difference, too. I was always sore from walking around Disney until I found a good pair of New Balance walking shoes with the added arch supports - no problems at all on our last trip!

I read that most typical visitors walk between 7-12 MILES a day at the parks. It really does pay off to "train" for your trip. Nobody wants to be the reason your family needs to take a rest! Happy feet= happy family!!

:)
