All that work for naught!

What's a "partially constructed" deviled egg?

Sounds like it's peeled hard-boiled eggs, sliced in two with the yolks removed to a separate bowl (or bowls) with some mayonnaise/mustard on the side... or maybe it's just peeled hard-boiled eggs?

Basically I bet the person who brought this 'dish' thought of a nice way to say "Here, I boiled me up a bunch of eggs and didn't want to do the work so I gave them a high-falutin' title". (You know, it is soooooooooo hard to mash up those yolks and add those hard-to-find deviled egg ingredients :rolleyes1 .)

I loooooooove banana pudding. I had a big scoop of my aunt's yesterday. Complete with Nilla wafers and homemade whipped cream. To die for. I would have had your banana pudding!

The torte sounds delicious too! Oh well, more for you! :) I had one deviled egg yesterday and that wasn't enough. I think I might make some today.

Oh, NO !!! Please don't get us started on 'canned corn' again! :scared1::rolleyes1
Ok, I'm not familliar with the canned corn incident you are referring to, but we ran into that at my job. Our office did several potlucks, and a lady in the office on several occasions brought a big restaurant sized can of corn with no dish, utensil, or seasoning. The funny thing is that her husband was a chef at a restaurant. I learned pretty quickly there to *not* spend a
lot of time or money on an office potluck again!

The tortes were old fashioned linzer tortes from my German ancestry and an Easter tradition for my family. They are loaded with almonds and rasberry filling, everything is hand ground, layered and they have a lattice top with a wonderful almond glaze on top. Lots of time and effort. On the positive side--I got my linzer torte for Easter. :)

They sound amazing, much much yummier than cake. :thumbsup2

Makes me feel bad for bringging 12 pk coke cola with me to family gatherings, but DH and I both work 40+hrs/wk and live 2 + hrs from rest of crew.
Rest of crew lives with in 30 min of gathering place. I do honestly always praise the cooks and rave about the texas sheet cake and cheese ball that r standards at gatherings to point where I have standing order for leftovers to come home with me.

Oh, please don't feel bad, I think this is just a thread for venting a bit. I think some cokes sound great. It's hard when you live away from the rest of the family when these gatherings come up as you and I do (though in my case it's about 4 hours). I never quite know what to bring and trying to keep things cold or hot in the car is almost impossible. I usually ask the host/hostess what they need/want, like sodas or paper-goods or whatever and usually call before I start out in case the host/hostess have just realized something has been left off the menu. I always get a list from the family cooks and make a stop at Costco the week we leave and take a long stand at dish-duty and cleaning-up.

I must confess one time I went to a pot luck with a bunch of tacos from Taco Bell! They were the first to go, too!:rotfl2:

My friends know I am a noncooker. I get asked to bring the rolls or cheese tray.
Don't feel bad about it...DH loved it...

LOL, I'm taking the coke next year. I've transported hot food in insulated bags and made stuff in the car while we were driving just to get a real dish contributed. I told Dh that next year I was taking tortilla chips and a jar of premade salsa. MAYBE I'll take bowls for them, MAYBE we'll just eat out of the bag and the jar. jk Yeah, my DH works a 60hour week and I usually work 40 plus I'm usually the taxi driver at the end of practice or games for many young men. I don't cook unless I have time. This year I was off Friday and Saturday with only a hoops tournament to interfere and our team was out early, so I cooked.

I get that too my Dad lives 4+ from us. And I understand about venting, I was just saying I feel kinda bad now but the Coke always seems to disappear so I know it's not a waste LOL.

It was home made pudding Buckalew! I stood over the stove for a long time just to make the pudding alone. Like I said, never again. On a positive note, my husband loved it!!!

Yummy! I love homemade banana pudding (won't eat it with from the box pudding). My MIL sometimes makes a similar pudding but uses strawberries instead of bananas. It is soooo good! I cannot imagine passing up that for a store bought cake.

Ok, I risk sounding like a complete idiot, and I know I can google... but what's banana pudding? What consistency is it? What is in it? I have never had this.

Oh, and for those of you... I live 7.5 hours drive from my family. One year I got assigned to bring a bread dip and another homemade dip with some veggies. My brother, who lived with my parents at the time (and is older than I am, plus has a job so it's not like he needed something cheap) got to bring cups. CUPS.. hmmm.. I could have easily brought cups from halfway across another state, but instead, I got to spend the first hour I was home making dips. I might still be bitter about that. (Oh, and I wasn't even told. They assigned it to me and told my mom, who thankfully had bought things for me to make dips or there would just not have been dip...... except for the dip that 2 other people brought!).

Wow, and here I was thinking it was so strange that the OP said people didn't really know about banana pudding! ;)

There are lots of variations but all the ones I've had have had a vanilla pudding base, sliced bananas and something like vanilla wafers. Sometimes those are layered together, other times they are just mixed up together. Sometimes it has meringue or whipped cream on it, sometimes it has brown sugar in it, sometimes people change it in other little ways. It's really popular in the south - you can find it all over the place. The best ones have homemade pudding or at least "cook and serve" pudding. It isn't nearly as good if you use instant pudding.

Mmmm. I can't do holidays without banana pudding... except now I have to make it sugar free, with sugar free cool whip and sugar free nilla wafers. It's just as good - I couldn't believe it! I have to stop DH from hogging it all!

There is also a really rich version that adds sweetened condensed milk and a container of whipped cream into the vanilla pudding and then more whipped cream on top or you can put sweetened meringue on top and bake until brown. Oh my!

Oh, that sounds good!

Can you send me some of the banana pudding? The problem is that we have a whole generation(my generation) of people who were raised on store bought foods and don't know what they're missing with homemade stuff. I don't eat store bought I only eat homemade. I can bake & I refuse to eat box crap. My own DD was baking this weekend. My kids prefer it to anything out of a box.

Where was the cake from? While I'm all for making life easier, most of the store bought cakes around here make the frosting with lard and sugar. Blech!

The cake was from Costco.

This thread has caused me to have a serious craving for my dh's homemade banana pudding!! And just when I was trying to get serious about my diet this week:upsidedow.
