All Tennesse and Weather Affected Fiends

We are certainly blessed! The water stopped rising about 5 inches from entering the first floor. We lost a lot in the garage, the two A/C units and the crawl space is flooded taking out our ductwork. BUT, we are so much better than many of our neighbors. About 150 homes in my neighborhood are being gutted, 3 burned with one actually exploding due to a gas leak. The neighborhood looks like a war zone and nothing will be normal for quite a while, but we feel so lucky! Could have been so much worse.

Thank you for all of the offers of assistance. We have had folks literally walking up to our door offering to help and offering sandwiches and water. At times like this you realize that people really are good.

Dave, this is great news, though I hate it for your neighbors.

To all those who have suffered at the hand of mother nature this weekend - I am so sorry for what you're experiencing. I know first hand from the 3 hurricanes of 2004 here in Florida that FEMA can be joke. If you don't carry extra flood insurance policy on your home - the insurance coverage you do have is probably a joke under these circumstances.

I don't have much to share in terms of household items - but I am willing to share what I have to those of you who might need such items for restocking purposes. I'll also be glad to send care packages if you post items you need on the board. You'll find most of the "little stuff that adds up" is what you're going to need the most of. Your cookware, kitchen items, etc .... can all be washed up and re-used, as will a lot of your clothing. Furniture, pictures, things like throw rugs, that kind of stuff, will go on the trash heap.

Create a list of what you need and us "Diser's" will more than likely be able to provide the better part of it. We're here to help.

Debbie, they just don't make em like you anymore!! Which can be a good thing lol. Anytime tragedy strikes you're always the 1st one to offer help. I'm proud to say your my friend, fiend and number 1 harrasser and I love you. When people say there's no good people left out there they're just wrong.

Glad everyone is somewhat OK, Dave so sorry for your neighbors.
We are all here to help, please let us know if any of you need anything. I have to start doing a purge of my household goods, I would rather give it to families that need it. Please keep safe and us posted.

Glad to hear you're okay Dave. Terrible about your home, please let us know if there's anything we can help you out with. Your family is in my prayers.

Dave glad to hear from you, been thinking about you. Always better when things aren't as bad as you thought.

E C, sorry things are a little rough for you, hope the clean up and repair goes quickly.

Element Camper reporting in:

Day two of the cleanup, now back in the room where Carol posted (thanks Carol!) the photos/videos of the 'waterfall'. Just took some time to drive downtown just now, about 16 blocks from the house, WOW!

Other than the damage downstairs everything is fine here, none of my living area was affected and I have power and water (for now). Can't get the water heater lit still but I setup a shower tent and portable water heater on the back deck so can take a shower. Lots of folks currently have it worse off.

When you look at the pictures Carol posted, the 'river' running beside my car is the water coming out of the garage. The waterfall was coming from a spring that surfaced under the house in the crawl space, out through the laundry/utility room and then through the garage.

Thanks again for all your thoughts and prayers.

We topped out at just under 13 inches, its not the total so much as to how it rained. It would rain for 45 mins and give us 2 inches then drain off and in another half hour here it would come again for another 30 mins and 2 inches. It did that all afternoon, in Nashville and where Dave lives it was unrelenting for hours on end. Kathy found some pictures on Facebook of Daves area and it along with many others is a mess.

Well I am back online. We just moved back into our house this evening. We have electricty and I was able to restore hot water. No A/C (and it's sticky!) but it's good to be home. Our neighborhood looks like a war zone. Sheriff is still restricting access, and the piles of debris are unbelievable. I sure wish everyone had flood insurance...but now FEMA is calling this a 1000 year event. Whatever.

3 positives to come out of this. The flood waters washed all the dog poop out of my yard. The moles have either drowned or floated away. And, most importantly, I've experienced the grace of so many good people that my faith in the future of this country has been restored somewhat.

Keep the good thoughts Dave. Even though its just the basement, it still stinks. Use a lot of bleach to clean. Flood water smells.

Glad they are restricting access. Its definitely needed when people are at their most vulnerable. The people that come out of the woodwork is reprehensible. I'll keep everyone in my prayers. :grouphug:

Great attitude. :thumbsup2

I'll send some poop and moles your way. ;)

Glad your home, Dave. Keep the positive attitude you'll need it. BTW I have plenty of moles to share, anything for you pal

Glad to hear the flood waters are receding and hope you are all able to recover from this with no serious hardship. Just joined in late, been a little overwhelmed up here lately and did not read the boards for a while. You are all in my prayers, please let us know if you need anything.

Ditto on what Deb said...as a survivor of back to back hurricanes, 29 days no power and a third hurricane the next year, please let us help. Us Floridians know your pain.

Ditto on what Deb and Jen said. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone!
