all stars questions

I have a question about the all stars.

We are booked at the all star sports during sept free dining. I have 2 boys that are both into sports big time ages 5/8. Of the sports themes they have at the resort they probably like baseball the most so I was thinking of requesting this section.

I just figured out that movies has a mighty ducks area. My boys are both avid hockey players and hockey is life at my house. Should I switch to movies? What is the mighty ducks area like?

In both the mighty ducks and baseball what should I ask for room assignment? I didn't reserve a premium room. If I want to be pretty close to a pool and a bus stop is that a possiblity with what I have booked. I don't mind a little hoofing it but I don't want to really have to walk 30mins to get to a stop or pool.

Did you already check on the availability of a room during your visit?BTW... Mighty Ducks is smoking optional, isnt it? :teacher:

ASMovies is better than Sports in my opinion anyways. Mighty Ducks is about a 7 minute walk from the main lobby area.

There's a nice pool by the Ducks section, made to look like a hockey rink with nets on either side.

1 building is and 1 isnt.

We request the MIghty Ducks building when we stay at ASMO. It is the furthest from the main building, but definitely not 30 minutes. ;) As noted above 7 minutes seems accurate. I found ASMO to be pretty compact...especially after staying at POR. You can also walk to the bus stop/food court at ASMU and its just about as close. This will have you getting on the bus sooner and a better chance of getting a seat.

With that said My DSs also like ASSP a lot too. I dont think you will go wrong with either. :thumbsup2

Like another poster said, you need to check availability. When we booked ASMo a month ago for a Sept free dining package, all that they had left were the preferred buildings (Dalmations, Toy Story and Fantasia) which cost extra $. So Mighty Ducks might not even be an option. It doesn't hurt to call and find out though, you never know when someone might cancel... I think your boys would get a kick out of either spot if they are into sports, and I'm pretty sure they can use the Mighty Ducks pool even if you stay in ASSp (I don't think it counts as pool hopping but someone else would know for sure.)

Thanks for the info about the pool. What do the rooms look like in the mighty ducks rooms. I'm giving a call about availablity right now.

When I think of a Disney Resort. I think of The All Stars.

I have been visiting since 1971 when it was brand new.
Most people would think I would equate the Poly or The Contemporary with Disney.
Not Me! The Poly and Contemporary may be nice resorts but they just do not seem Disneyto me.

I love the giant icons at the All Stars. The huge Coke cups with the straws in them at All Star Sports, the Giant Buzz and Woody and the Mickey pool at All Star Movies, and the pool with Donald at All Star Music. I feel like I stepped into a Disney Movie Fantasyland when I am at the All Stars.
Now that is Disney!
When we pull up to All Stars and I see those giant icons I get the biggest smile on my face. I know I am at Disney! :goodvibes

I love The All Star Resorts.

I am 55 years old and travel several times a year. I often stay at 4 star hotels.
So the deluxe resorts do not have anything special for me.
All Star is like being in the heart of the Magic and that is where I want to be.

All Star Music is my favorite. It is quieter because more couples stay there. I love staying at the Calypso building. It is closer to the pool, food court and bus stop.

Here is a site with a map of All Star Sports and All Star Music.

Scroll down. All Star Music is at the bottom of the page.
The Calypso buildings at All Star Music are #1 and #10 are nearest to the food court and bus stop.

The Calypso pool at ASMu has Donald Duck.

Here is the map of All Movies.

The Fantasia Buildings are the preferred buildings.
The All Star Movie Fantasia pool has Mickey.
It is a great place to stay.
Preschoolers love it.
It is like being in the middle of a Disney Movie Fantasyland.
All Star Movies has a Fantasia themed children's pool area.

The buses are wonderful.

Bus rides are quite short from the ALL Stars according to PassPorter.com

All Star Buses-CBR buses---POPbuses--PO buses--- Contemporary
MK 20 min---- 20 min-----25 min------10 min---20 min(mono)
Epcot 10 min-- 15 min-----20 min------10 min---15 min
MGM 10 min----12 min-----15 min------15 min---20min
AK 10 min------20min-------15 min----15 min---20 min
DTD 15 min----20 min------20 min-----15 min---35 min

It only takes 10 minutes to get to Epcot, MGM and AK from All Stars.
MK is 20 min away. That's the same amount of time it takes on the monorail from the Contemporary.

A WORD ABOUT BUS SHARING

To me Bus Sharing at the All Stars is really a non issue.

In the mornings during Park opening hours each All Star usually has a dedicated bus.
During mid day it is usually just our stop and maybe one more on the way to the parks. On the way back sometimes it is all 3 but often Sports and Music share and Movies has it's own bus back.

I guess some people who stay at POP see all 3 All Star names on the return sign of our bus stop when they head to the POP bus stop and think All Stars also has 3 stops on the way to the park.
(Even when we stop at another AS resort to load up it has not taken more than 5 minutes and we are on our way!)

The pools at The All Stars are very kid friendly.

When staying at the All Stars you can use any of the All Star pools. That means 3 main pools ,3 quiet pools and 3 kiddie pools to chose from.

The All Star Movie Fantasia pool has Mickey.

The Calypso pool at ASMU has Donald Duck.

And the Surfs up pool at All Star Sports has giant surf boards.

Here are a few pool photos.

All Star Movies Mickey Pool.

I have visited WDW more than a dozen times with the 1st time in Oct. 1971. It was brand new. I've stayed at FW, Disney Inn, a few the of Hotels on hotel Blvd., CBR and the towers at the Contemporary. I got to see the MK from my balcony at the Contemporary and I'm happy I got to experience it once. I just prefer the All Star Resorts.
The theming is pure Disney.
My last 5 visits have been at The All Stars and last fall when we took dd,dsil, and our grandson age 3 for 8 nights we stayed at the All Stars Music. I thought about AKL and even though we can well afford AKL I just wanted Alex to experience the Disney Magic :wizard: at the All Stars on his first visit.
Where else can one find Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse at the pool?

Have a great time at Disney!

If you get mighty Ducks, a hint, you will be really close to Music's Bus Stop, so if you need to catch the bus, it is quick to get there from Mighty Ducks! Good luck!

If your boys are hockey fanatics, ASMo is better than ASSp. The Mighty Ducks buildings sport 50' nets at each end, giant Mighty Ducks goalie masks, giant hockey sticks and pucks, and a totally hockey themed pool (with Goofy the goalie).
ASMo isn't as big as some would lead you to believe, the Mighty Ducks buildings are the furthest from the Food Court/bus stop, but still wouldn't be more than 100 yards away.

Thanks for the replys. I was able to split my stay up. Doing 4 at sports and 3 at movies. I have requested baseball and mighty ducks.

What have been your success at getting your requests. Going in sept during free dining.

I'll love wherever we get but know the boys would really love to stay with their two big loves (baseball and hockey)

What are your dates in September? We will be staying at AS Sports 9/19-9/26 also enjoying the free dining plan once again this year. Sorry I can't help you out with movies because we always stay at Sports. My sons (ages 17 and 13) are very athletic. We always stay in a preferred location, the surf's up building which is very close to everything. Good Luck and maybe I will see you there. I will be the one at poolside drinking a strawberry daiquiri. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

We got Ducks when we stayed at ASMo last july... since you are going during free dining you may want to see if there is even availability to move to ASMo, Just request when you do so for mighty ducks... you may get lucky and get in there as most ppl request Toy Story or Fantasia... and even if you get Dalmations its right next to the Duck stuff...

The rooms... There is a Mighty Ducks Framed poster on the wall and border if I remember right. Other than that they are mostly like the ones in the pictures you have prob seen on they disney website.

HTH

Lustermom our trips will overlap. We'll be all star sports 16-19 and movies 20-22.

I was thinking the same thing that more people request the other movie locations than the mighty ducks. If we got into one of the other movie spots the boys would love that also because they love disney movies toy story and fantasia are favs of both boys. So there would be no bad place.

I was thinking baseball might be different though. Do most people make requests to the sections or just die hard DISers?
