Hello,

My best friend is going to Disney with her daughter and granddaughter.

They are planning on staying on site, and have picked All Star Movies.

What is the best building for them to stay in?

They would like to be close to the pool, close to the bus stop and close to the food court?

The CM told her "preferred" building was Fantasia. What does preferred mean?

And last question, are there hot tubs at ASM?

Thanks,

No, there are no hot tubs.
"Preferred" means you pay an extra 10.00 a night for the Fantasia buildings which are the closest to the main pool and the buses, food court, gift shop, etc... Personally, I dont feel the extra money is worth it. The whole resort is pretty compact, althought that may be relatively speaking since we had previously stayed at DXL which was huge. I would request whatever theming appeals to the child the most. Last year we did Toy Story(which was very close to everything too) and this year we are going with Mighty Ducks.

I second the Toy Story building. It is just a short walk to the main building and to the pool. Plus, the kids loved playing by Woody, Buzz etc... 101 Dalmations is on the otherside of the pool and that wouldn't be bad either. Hope this helps.

We stayed in Toy Story, Woody building (bldg #9).
I can't see that this building is further away than Fantasia. If it is, it can't be but a few steps.
We were on the back side, corner room, close to the elevator. Perfect room! (sigh) #9920.
We weren't expecting much, because in January and the AP rate, the room was only $55 a night with tax. Plus we had only previously stayed at CSR, lagoon view.
I was VERY pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed staying at ASMo.
The grounds were immaculate, the CM's were great, the food court was better than I expected, the room was clean and with a great lcoation. And of course there's Andy's Room. :bounce:
The bus service was perfect, well organized and orderly.
The ONLY downside I saw was the too small laundry facility.
But other than that -- it was PERFECT!
We had a Priority package delivered and they even put it in our room while we were our during the day.
And the resort was quiet.
We are staying at ASMu in October and again at ASMo in January.
I have to admit until I stayed at an AS, I looked down on my nose at them. But now I can't say enough good about them! :)
No spa (Disney speak for hot tub), ceiling fans, in-room coffee makers or hairdryers. I guess iron/ironing board can be requested. But I didn't use/ask for one.
The walk around the resort is small, in comparison to a mod resort walk. Once I was at ASMo, I understood when others were posting about CSR being so *spread out*.

We also stayed in Toy Story and it was fairly close. I always request the next closest set of buildings at a All Star instead of paying the extra 10.00. If I get the request great if not no big deal.

The only bad thing I have to say about ASMo was that check-in took FOREVER!!!!!! When my brother and his family checked in (they arrived before us) it took 25 minutes. When we arrived at 9:30PM it still took 20 minutes. This was in January of 2001. Hopefully, it has improved since then. I should state that those times are how long we waited in line. Then it still took 5 to 10 minutes for the CM to get the keys, etc... Other than that, I enjoyed my stay there. The rooms are small but adequate for a family of 4. Hope this helps.

Thank you all for your input. It really helps.

I did forget to ask one question.

What about the noise level? I read somewhere that people requested rooms not facing the pool.

What are your experiences and recommendations?

Thanks again.

Hi, we have stayed at the ASMo the last two years and will be staying there again in two weeks. We have never experieinced high noise levels in our previous stays.

I have heard that school groups come down for football games, cheerleading competitions, etc and usually stay in the AS complex. We have not noticed that and we always go in Sept/Oct and it is HS/JrHi football season..
