All Stars Movie Resort VERSUS Contemporary

We're a family of five (3 kids ages11, 8, 4) and did 2 rooms at POP for our last trip. The extra space was nice, the two bathrooms, two t.v.'s , kids' could go to sleep while DH & I stayed up later (that's where the extra privacy comes in handy LOL). While it was loud there, if you were to request a room away from the pool, you should be ok. We had a rental so I can't comment on bus trans. IMHO, 4 adults and 2 kids in one room would be a bit cramped

That said, I am seriously considering one room at a deluxe ( or even POR) just because we've always done value and I'd like to try something different.

I'm interested to read other's opinions on this.

In the end, no matter what our opinions, it is going to be up to you and your family to decide how you want to spend your time and your money.

What about a split stay so you can have both? Will that still save money or cost you more?

I would be riding the fence on this one also because there are positives about both resorts. I have girls 3 and 4 and they loved the ASMO. I personally have no desire to stay at the CR it just doesn't appeal to me.
We stayed at the Poly last year and are definately hooked on a monorail resort until the girls are out of a stroller. We go to all the parks but the MK is definately our main park with the kids that little.

Here's a few things I would consider..

The only preference I would have with the pool is if CR had zero entry. I'm not sure if it does. Although the girls liked the Poly pool the same as ASMO the zero entry was an added plus. The slide made no difference as they don't go down the slide anyhow.

Even though you don't think you will be in your room often (we didn't think so either) we ended up at the resort alot more than when I was single without children. Two bathrooms with four adults would be nice especially in the morning.

If you do decide that ASMO is your choice then it will be great for your children. Use the extra money to do something else like a Princess Breakfast or a meal at Cindy's.

Have fun!

Yeaaaah....I kinda figured that, but I need the info you guys have to make our decision and decide what is more important to us and how I want to spend my $, so, again, thanks!

Thank you for perspective as a mom w/ very small children, like us. I agree w/ you, we'll stay at ASM this time and take a look around for next time. We usually don't stay on site, but we will start doing so w/ this trip and for others to come.........tnx!

Make sure your prices include the extra charge for the 3rd and 4th adult in the room at the Contemporary.

I'd go with 2 rooms and 2 baths.

There is no comparison. Definatly go for the Contemporary. The rooms are bigger, you might get (probably get the MK VIEW) and when it rains in the afternoon you don't get wet. Just hop right back on board the monorail and your inside the resort, with a ton of things to do. The arcade is much bigger than all the others, the resturants are great. As for the bathroom situation belive me the bathrooms are big. And there is a second room for the toilet that includes a second sink. The MK View alone is worth the extra money.

I'm pretty sure OP is pricing a wing room. I wouldn't count on a MK view. If it rains when they're in the MK they'll get soaked long before they get to the MK monorail station. Can you even go from the main building to the wing buildings without going outside?

No way would I want to have 6 people in one room for more than one night. I have 4 step children and when they come on vacation with us we get 2 rooms! Of course I prefer deluxe hotels but with their food likes/dislikes the values with big food courts are a better choice.

Me too. No one makes a hotel room large enough for us to share it with either set of our parents. pirate:

We are a family of six who originally booked two rooms at Movies and switched to the Contemporary. We leave in two days. I'll let you know what it was like. Our kids are young (13 and under) so our circumstances are a little different. We have two in strollers, so for me the monorail means the world. Also, when DH and older DD's want to stay at MK, I can just hop back to the room and put the little ones to bed. The one bathroom will be a challenge, but hey, it's a Disney bathroom!

I've stayed at both Contemporary and ASMu, and I wasn't too impressed with the difference in the rooms--the Contemporary had a couch and a patio, but since I was by myself, the extra room didn't make much difference to me. The decor was rather similar--I don't know why neither one really utilizes the characters much (at all) in the rooms. As far as the view, I had a view of the lake from a wing room, but was rarely there to ponder it much. I suppose if I had gone out on the patio at night and looked around I might have been able to see the fireworks, but I usually saw them by actually being in the park.

The last time I went, I found that I usually was only at the MK for a morning or evening, and then it was just as easy to eat lunch at Kona Cafe, or dinner at California Grill, and then utilize their parking for that time period.
