So this is an old thread, but I figured I'd post it this story anyway. It occurred about 6 months ago at All Star.
This was a honeymoon trip. My wife and I were at the resort from 10/12 - 10/20 (2009).
I thought hey, it's our honeymoon, might as well go all out. I was wrong as you will see...
On our arrival we were very impressed with the home...but once we stepped inside, it all went downhill. Upon checking out the swimming pool, we found a dead frog in it...well that may happen from time to time but of course it kind of turned us off from the pool. That and the fact that the water wasn't very cool (temps were in the 90's in Florida on our arrival and for most of our time there). We decided to play some games in the game-room later, and discovered that it was also very warm. We realized that the A/C unit was not working in that room and neither was any of the electronics. We called All*Star about this and they sent over a maintenance person who let us know that a fuse had went and just needed pushed in on the fuse box. As we proceeded to play air hockey with the A/C running after he left, the fuse went out again...and again...and once again while we were playing a game of pool. That was the end of the game room because as you could imagine, this became very annoying resetting the fuse every few minutes.
The next day after a long day of park hopping in Disney we discovered a dead cockroach outside of the game-room...this worried us somewhat but we thought maybe it could have been there for awhile but again maybe not so much because we noticed there were a lot of ants around on the floor in the living room. The person who cleaned our room apparently did not clean the house very well at all.
Then finally on our last day, all heck broke loose. We were trying to get a good night's sleep before our flight home when I heard something that sounded like water trickling down a drain or a toilet running. I woke my wife and asked her if she heard something and then we both decided to investigate. As I went into the bathroom of the vacation home, I saw a bug quickly crawling up the wall. I asked my wife, "...what...what is that?" As she looked, her mouth dropped and responded, "Oh my God, it's a roach!" And sure enough it was a cockroach. I couldn't believe it. I told my wife lets get out of here pack your stuff and we'll stay somewhere else for the night. She quickly agreed. She gathered up some things in the kitchen, and I hear a scream from her and ask her what was wrong...and yet there was ANOTHER cockroach crawling on the floor. That was it, I couldn't pack my stuff faster enough to get away from this dirty place. We ended up staying at the Holiday Inn for one night on 192 in Celebration, FL on a
AAA rate that wasn't too bad for one night. Needless to say this place was A LOT cleaner than the entire vacation home.
The next day checking out at the vacation home, my wife and I told the lady at All*Star of our horrors and what we went through for the week. She apologized but to our surprise proceeded to say that cockroaches are very prominent in Florida which I understand may be, but where I'm from, north of Pittsburgh it's a sign of dirtiness, and absolute disgust. She told us that she would inform her manager and someone would be contacting us, but of course they have not. We definitely will never be staying there again on a future trip to WDW.
Overall as I mentioned this was one of if not the best vacation I ever had, and my wife and I had a fantastic time...it's just that the vacation home totally put a damper on the end of the trip that we sadly will never forget...but we will not be staying at All*Star again. Next trip will definitely be somewhere on Disney's campus.
