OK I need some help! We have stayed twice at AS music and loved it but want to try something new...

Like the theming of AS Movies (2 smaller kids who would like this and two teens who would like sports) ...

However we are staying standard room (not wanting to pay extra since we have to get 2 rooms) and I'm thinking the AS sports may end up being a better location/shorter walk without paying the extra?? Most of As movies buildings are preferred right? where as sports, only one? Checking in at 1100 pm so afraid of getting whats left lol

Bus pickups.. Sports: nice to be first picked up.. I remember lots of times leaving music and bus already being full before picking up at movies. There are 6 of us so we take up a lot of seats lol..I hate to stand every time being picked up last at movies.

Poolside entertainment? Do both movies and sports do evening movies and poolside games during the day?

ANy thoughts on above would help me greatly.. Thanks!!

How old are your younger ones? We have done ASM several times, but Sports is my kid's favorite. I have 3 active boys...17,10 and 8. The football field at Sports is great! My kids love to play there....and have since my youngest was 3. We spent spring break at POR (brought grandma with us) and they really missed their sports! Loved POR....but missed sports.

Yes, same poolside entertainment and movies. I don't think most families request football area...but that's our first choice. Not having a car on the trip makes sports another reason for first choice, although Disney has been better with each resort having their own bus...at least with my last experience with the bus system, I prefer to have a car.

The downside? Well...many teams stay at all of the all stars. They are not always nice to little ones (not the best choice of words, maybe too aggressive?) . I've seen too many times where a team of 14 year old boys overtake the area many little ones are at. Even the pool! You will run into this at all the values and some of the mods.

I have stayed at AS movies with my family (two little girls and then older pre-teen girls) numerous times. Obviously sports was not even a consideration but I think Movies appeals to all sexes. With the global appeal of all the movies, the theming is gender neutral.

Regarding the poolside activites, every time I have been there, there has been none! I guess you have to go up to the moderate or above to get poolside entertainment. They may have a poolside movie that I don't know about but in our last stay there two years ago, there was none during our 9 night stay.

Regarding the bus. We never really had any issue. What we have realized though is that driving to the parks is worth it for any of the values. We have found that we can do AAA diamond parking, get to our car and back to the resort before the first All Star or Pop bus has even loaded! We ride the bus for Magic Kingdom but again, movies has always seemed a bit less crowded than Pop (which we like a ton!).

Regarding preferred rooms. There are no preferred buildings, just preferred rooms. For example, the rooms facing the pool are preferred but if you round the corner and stay on the backside of these buildings closest to the pool and/or lobby, they are standard rates. So you can stay just as close to the front. I would suggest requesting the Fantasia buildings which put you right near the action. Making a request does not hurt. I have even gone so far as to request particular rooms and they have always honored my request. Just put this request on your reservation and send a note confirming this about a month prior to your arrival. You'll be surprised. It's a great resort. Give it a try since both young and old will like it!

I've stayed at all three All Star Resorts, and Sports was my favorite. I liked getting first dibs on the bus and first to be left off the bus at night.

I love both Movies & Sports. This is a tough choice! I'd lean more towards Movies because of the theme. Plus its bigger and the arcade & pool is better. Sure the bus situation is better at Sports, but they dont always share buses.

PS: All disney resort now have poolside activities. :thumbsup2

Was just at Sports 2 weeks ago with my DD29, DGS7 and DGD4. We stayed in Bldg 10, 1st fl. I made the req and loved it. I think it's great for girls to stay at Sports (we like playing sports too). I love the shortcut from Bldg 10 to the buses. When going to the food court they had the screen up for the poolside movie. My DGD loved running the football field.
Plus we like the bigger discounts at Sports.

The only bldgs that have preferred rooms at Sports is Surfs up by the main pool. At Movies it's Toy Story, Fantasia, and Dalmatians. I've always known it to be preferred bldgs. I was booked at Music with a preferred room and they tried giving me Calypso, 3rd FL at the very end of the hallway closest to the parking lot. I called and complained. I ended up with Jazz, 1st FL closest toward the lobby. At that time it was considered standard (now preferred) but it was a great room. When Movie went mostly preferred, we stopped staying there. It's quieter at Sports compared to Movies. Which we love.
