All Star Music Resort accessible room with adjoining room door?

I made a 2 room reservation at All Star Music Resort. I booked one accessible room and requested the other room to be adjoining. The main thing for us is to have grab bars in the bathroom, with the adjoining interior door. We bring a bath chair for my son to use. The very nice cast member put me on hold for a few minutes, came back and said she wanted to make sure this was possible. It would have to be a 2 queen room accessible, as the king accessible rooms do not have an adjoining door. I said that would be fine. (We stayed there last December and had such a room(s), with the grab bar bathroom having a shower curtain instead of a sliding door. It was perfect.)

The next day I got a call from a Disney cast member saying that none of the accessible rooms have an adjoining door. We would have to get 2 regular queen bedrooms to get the adjoining door. Has any of you had an accessible room/bathroom with an adjoining door at ASMu, or any of the All Star resorts?

There are some accessible rooms that connect, at least according to TouringPlans. What kind of accessible are you booking/needing? I think FL Accessible has more, but those rooms may or may not meet your needs.

However, if having connecting rooms is absolutely a "must have" then you really should look into something like the Family Suites or a villa. Requesting connecting is not a guarantee, and even less likely to be available with HA simply because there are so few of those rooms anyway.

Adding to above... I went through the TouringPlans Room Finder and this is what I learned:

• yes there are accessible rooms that connect with a regular room
• the non-accessible room will be a 2 queen (queen bed plus queen murphy table/bed)
• Preferred FL Accessible King has the most connecting rooms (25)
• Preferred King w/tub has 8 connecting rooms
• Standard FL Accessible King has 3 connecting rooms
• Preferred 2Q w/roll-in shower has 1 connecting room
• Preferred 2Q w/rub has 1 connecting room
• Accessible categories with no connecting rooms:
  • preferred king w/roll-in shower
  • standard king w/roll-in shower
  • standard king w/tub
  • preferred 2Q FL accessible
  • standard 2Q accessible (any category accessible)

I can't say this is 100% accurate but it gives an idea.

What we mostly need are grab bars in the bathroom and connecting door. I do understand about requests not guaranteed. What confused me is when the cast member who called me said they have "no" connecting doors in accessible rooms. I will take a look at TouringPlans. Thank you!

Just to clarify -- grab bars in the bathroom are guaranteed if you book an accessible room with those in the description. Those options are Wheelchair Accessible with Roll-in Shower or Wheelchair Accessible with Tub. Florida Accessible has grab bars at the toilet but it doesn't specify at the tub/shower, though I have read reports there are bars there as well. If I really needed those I might be hesitant to book since they aren't specified in the description.

What is a request and not guaranteed is "connecting" rooms. There are room types which do essentially guarantee that. I recognize those may be more expensive but they are offered, thus a request for connecting 2 rooms is not guaranteed. If NOT having an interior door connecting your rooms is a deal-breaker, I suggest looking at room types that will guarantee it. Otherwise you could be next to each other without a door between, or a few rooms away, or potentially different floors.

If you still want to risk "connecting" I highly recommend booking one of the room types mentioned above that has the most potential for connecting. That would be a Preferred King, either FL Accessible (if that will meet your needs) or Wheelchair Accessible with Tub. Your 2nd room (non-accessible) will need to be a preferred 2-queen.

I don't know if it'll help you, but I bought the grab bars, below, for stability when I had my knee surgery. You can't use them to lift yourself up out of a tub, but they are fairly sturdy for balance assistance and such when showering, or getting in/out of the shower. Might be worth buying as a back-up, just in case you don't get a room with grab bars. You could give them a test-drive at home.

Also, make sure you ask for CONNECTING rooms to get two rooms with a door in between them. Adjoining just means somewhere nearby, in Disney-speak.

My mom has this type in her shower and they work ok for balance but if you put too much pressure on them, they slip (learned the hard way)! But definitely better than nothing.
