Hello
We are going to Disney (we are FL residents) in August and this is our first time staying on property. I have a few questions.

I made reservations, but I am reading on the boards that there are different buildings. Can you request certains buildings, and what can you tell me about them. It will be me and my hubby and our 16 yr old son and 17 yr old nephew who love music, esp. rock.

Since we will be driving our car, are there advantages/disadvantages to using the Disney transportation from the hotel. We are so used to just driving to the park and leaving our car there. Is the Disney transportation to the parks more convenient/quicker? Or would we be better off driving ourselves? Also, is there a charge for parking at the parks if we drive when you stay on site?

Thank you very much!!!

Hi Jeannie,

Try this link for lots of info on ASMU:
http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/faq_asm.htm

Also if you do a search on these boards you will find dozens of threads on ASMU with lots of comments about the resort.

There is no charge for parking at the theme parks if you are staying on-site.

You'll also find a staunch group of people on the DIS who are in favor of renting a car, and a staunch group who are in favor of taking WDW transportation, so you probably won't get a clear answer to that question here!

We stayed at ASMU is 2003- we really liked it. We found the busses convenient and quick- liked not having to worry about parking etc. I would recommend getting a preferred room in the Calypso section... if none are available, Jazz is the next closest..... Have a great trip!

ASMu is great. The Jazz building is in a good location and we liked that building. We have also stayed in Country Fair in the back of the resort. That was far from everything but very quiet. Jazz is the better of the two locations.

We used Disney transportation just due to the convenience of it. There is no charge for parking at the parks for the resort guests.

During my last stay at ASMu, I arrived too late to get a car on the first day, so I took the busses for the first evening/next morning. They were very efficient going to the parks--I almost always found a bus pulling up as I walked out--but coming back was a nightmare. It took me something like 1 1/2hr to get from AK to Downtown Disney the first night, and then 1hr to get from MK back to ASMu the next afternoon. By far, the longest line I stood in for the whole trip was the bus--I was very happy to get my car, after that! :moped:

Plus, I found it a much shorter walk to the car in the parking lot behind the building, than all the way over to the front of the resort for the busses.
