All Star Movies shut down- anyone know what's happening?

Unannounced drills at schools and workplaces make sense, as the same people will be there every day for months at a time
and can learn techniques to help them in the future.

Drilling with WDW resort guests who will not be the same population at that resort even next week does not sound realistic.
Also, in light of recent world events, it could easily generate unwarranted worry and anxiety.

A "drill" doesn't seem likely.

No matter who is there for the drill, it does give valuable information - what went wrong, what worked, what was forgotten, who took charge, etc. The guests are just pawns, as it is the staff that needs the testing. It does give the guests there though some valuable experience that could save their lives at some point.

I would think the point of a drill is to train CMs, not guests.
Exactly. Our local law enforcement has to run drills on school lock-downs so they can learn how to respond appropriately. It's as much for them as for faculty, staff, and students.

This situation, though, sounds like something specific to ASMo since the one poster left and caught a bus to MK where everything is fine. And the OP says something about the problem being in the lobby. Maybe it was a suspicious package.

I've been through a dozen "bomb threats" at our school...all in the form of someone writing the word "bomb" on the bathroom wall in pencil. We were averaging a couple a week for a few weeks because some kids thought it was funny and a great way to get out of class. Every time, even though we knew it was fake, we had to evacuate, we have to allow kids to call home and their parents to pick them up, and law enforcement and the fire department have to come clear the building. An automated call is sent out to parents to tell them about the incident while it's happening. We all know it's fake, but it's still taken very seriously by administration and law enforcement.

Disney doesn't like anything negative, better to say it's a drill than to say suspicious package or some other emergency.

I can not imagine this is a drill, even if a CM claimed it was to try to keep people calm. It does sound like a suspicious/unattended parcel. Possibly someone left a bag behind in the lobby accidentally. We have a campus near my office and one of the college kids accidently left a backpack on the ground outside their car about a block from my office and drove off about 6 months ago. Someone called it in and the police showed up. This was around 5:00 p.m. and the police had my office on lockdown for almost 3 hours while they called the bomb squad in to check it out. No one could go out the front door. Those lucky enough to have parked in the back that day could go out the back door and leave, but everyone that parked in the front was not allowed around our building to get to their cars. The staff was not pleased. I would think if it was an unruly guest that the lockdown would be very short lived, unless that guest injured someone else and there was an investigation going on. It could be a lobby accident, but I don't know why they would have everyone stay in their rooms for that as opposed to just not letting them in the lobby. The length of time and the telling people to stay in their rooms makes me think more suspicious package. As annoying and scary as it is, the good thing is that it sounds like they were working to keep everyone safe.

I'll respectfully disagree. If someone tells me to stay where I am, I'll stay where I am. I won't ask a bunch of questions. I would trust that there is a valid reason for the lockdown and I'd wait for clearance to be given.

So....we can probably trust Disney in this, but I cannot help but think of the Costa Concordia AND the South Korean ferry. Especially on the ferry, the captain told people, schoolkids for a large part, to stay put in their rooms and the hallways. They did, and they died.

So if you follow things blindly, know the source.

Being reported on Twitter that there was a suspected gas leak, and that authorities were on site to keep cars away.

A gas leak? That's usually pretty localized but who knows.

I was thinking about the possibility of a suspicious package. People at WDW are always leaving purchases around so that might happen a lot.

Unfortunately I feel they could have handled it much better. Places much larger have reverse 911 systems and most people are leaving cell #'s for text messages. Then when I called I literally got 3 different answers from 3 different people telling me 3 different things. It's not right in a situation like this. No they don't want to start a panic but when cast member 2 tells me to call back for a tie breaker as to if I'm under a lock down or not I have worries and as cool as I tried to play it a kid who's still asking "Mom, what was happening? What was going on? Are we safe?" Also the switchboard at the Poly was most unheloful by doing nothing more that throwing me into the reservation cue who told me "well tell them when you get there what happened and they MAY be able to help you."

Again, no problem letting people do a job that isn't fun in these situations but keeping people who are here informed should be something they manage as well.

Everyone is safe and in the end that's the best outcome and I hope she doesn't keep asking about it.

Except when someone tells you to stay in your room at a Disney resort there is no chance of you drowning.

****How funny, in my post ,(look two posts later) I spoke of not being tech savy. I meant to have this quote and my post together. I have no idea what I did wrong.*****
