We are going to Disney for 1st time DH, me, DS4 & DS7 and are staying at the ASMovies Resort. We have preferred room location and NO dining plan. Can anyone give me any info, tips or just cool facts about this resort?

We (me, dh, ds10 and ds6) stayed at AsMo for the first time in September. We really enjoyed it!

We were in the Toy Story section, no preferred room, and on the dining plan (free!).

My tips are to plan time to swim in the pool. We didn't spend nearly as much time as we wanted to swimming. Also, plan time to walk the resort and take in the other buildings and their icons. My dh and my boys walked around a little bit while I was getting ready in the morning, but I didn't see ANY other part of the resort for our entire stay. I am disappointed now that I only saw Buzz and Woody! LOL

The food court is busy ALL THE TIME. We ate breakfast as early as 7 am and it was PACKED....we got drinks in our refillable mugs as late as 10 pm and it was PACKED. Just be prepared for lines!

The gift shop is pretty nice and fairly big...we were able to do some of our souvie shopping right there.

The bus lines are not covered. Just be prepared incase it starts raining. I didn't realize that they were uncovered, since we've only ever stayed moderate or at FW campground.

Have a great time...it's a really cool resort! This is coming from someone (me) who never had interest staying value before. Now, I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. It was just as much fun as staying at POR in my opinion!!

make sure you take time to walk around the resort-behind the fantasia pool is (well was a couple of years ago) models of Donald and Daisy for photo ops, plus there are the Toy story stuff-Rex,Andy's room etc which makes some fantastic shots. If you head over through the dalmation section theres props there too.

Take a walk over to AS music and Sports too to see their themeing . Hope you have a great time

So many adults on the Dis talk about loving Disneyworld because of the "magic." I agree with them...

...but I have to say the "Magic" in my kid's eyes on their first visit to Disneyworld came from staying at AsMo in the Toy Story section. That's where their magic was. I can't believe that they would have had as much fun staying at a moderate or a deluxe. They were blown away that they could come out of their room and see Buzz and Woody...their two favorite people on earth...every morning....the looks on their faces...PRICELESS.

As it is, they still talk about that hotel even though we've stayed many places in many different cities...when they hear the word hotel they think of the AsMo...I think I've ruined them for life. We're going to D.C. for spring break and I'll have to really take the time to explain to them that even though we'll be staying in a hotel it will not have Buzz and Woody.

AsMo is what it's all about with kids that age. Have fun.

All Star Movies is really like a motel. The rooms are small. But if you look past it, the reason we stayed there was because our DS loves Buzz and Woody. And we saw Buzz and Woody all the time, all 4 stories of them! It had all the little Toy Story touches like RC, Bo Beep, soldiers... There's a nice playground between the toy story area and the pool. I recommend the refillable mug of course. I would recommend driving actually instead of waiting for the buses. They are packed and a long wait. remember if you stay on-site you don't have to pay for parking at the theme parks... Have fun.

I just wanted to say that dh and I stayed for one night at the end of our trip (after 6 nights at POFQ) at Allstar Movies because I was sick and we didn't want to drive that day and we really liked it. It is not romantic but it is GREAT for kids I would imagine. The wallpaper, bedspread, curtains, etc. were all very child-like. We stayed in Love Bug room 7921, It didn't seem THAT small. It was smaller than POFQ but not tiny. We thought the pool looked very nice (we didn't swim that day).
Our favorite thing about the resort was that on channel 96, I think, they have a tv station that plays nothing but classic technicolor disney cartoons. That was awesome since I had pnuemonia and was in bed all day/evening. My dh and I watched that channel the whole time we were there. :thumbsup2

Myself, My DW, and our DS4 and DS2 stayed in the Mighty Ducks Section. If your there, your room is closer to the bus stop for All Star Music than for All Star Movies, get off cut through the lot and your at the room.

Also if you stay for the Fireworks at MK, be prepared for a crowded bus ride or a long wait (when using bus transport). We waited on a bench in the back and usually took the last bus back, but this got us back to the resort real late.

We were able to get life preserver/vests for my kids to use in the pool for our entire trip for free. I got them from inside the game room just off the lobby in AS Movies. And I agree with the previous post, plan on lots of pool time.

And yes, if you are planning on staying for the MK fireworks, drive to the MK that day instead of taking the bus. IF you have to take the bus, plan on having a snack or two and some activities for your kids to do when everyone is exhausted and waiting in line for the bus back to the resort at the end of the day.
