We are staying here for one night- getting in around 3, dinner at another resort, and checking out in the morning. We will not have a car but will need to get somewhere for rental in the morning.

Would it be worth it/advisable to get a preferred room for $12 more? The views listed are the same...
What would be my closest rental option?

We do think that preferred is worth $12 and we usually book preferred at values, when possible. (Not possible for Little Mermaid at AOA, and our kids like the Broadway section at All Star Music, so those are exceptions.) I love to walk, but not necessarily to our room when staying value. So preferred makes the resort feel more compact to us.

As for rentals, we've rented from the car care center and from the rental location at the Dolphin hotel. We usually go with the Dolphin when staying in the Epcot resort area, but for all other resort stays, we rent from car care. At least in the past, they have picked us up at our resort to rent the car and/or shuttled us to our next resort when returning a car.

I think it depends on your family too. I stayed there with my 2 year old last year and we booked Preferred so we would be in the Toy Story Section and decently close to transportation.

We have never paid extra for preferred. Once we got a preferred anyway. Honestly, I actually preferred being away from the hustle of the main pool and dining building. The walk was never bad, even with kids.

We always paid for the preferred rooms. The last trip we made we stayed at POP and paid for a preferred room. The rooms were in the 50's but nowhere what we had been used to as preferred. I even went to the desk and asked to make sure we had been given the correct category. So going forward we will not pay the extra.
