all right ladies...i need hair help!!

i have rather long hair, which i do plan to cut maybe to my shoulder blades before the trip.
but, im going in august and it will be really hot. i dont want to sport a pony all week, but i also dont want it down where it will just bother me.

so what do you ladies do?

Usually I go w/ a ponytail, braid or bun of some sort during the summer months if we are there... of course that is what I do during the really humid days here at home too.

:offtopic:
On another topic - if you are cutting some "rather long hair" and that translates to over 10 inches, you should think about donating it:

I've done it a few times & it really is easy -- when your hair dresser cuts it have them put it in a pony tail, toss it in an envelope & mail it off. They take care of the rest. And in the end it helps out someone who really, really needs it. :thumbsup2

Hey

When we went last yr my hair was long (about to my elbow)

I wash my hair in the mornings and then we have suave gel spray (it looks like a hairspray bottle) and I just spray that all over in my hair underneath too and the I pull it up in a pony and twist it around making a bun and then placing a holder around and then bobby pins here and there and think I hairspray it and tie a cute disney ribbon that we got at hobby lobby and that's it I think it take like 5-10 minutes depending on how thick your hair is and once you get it the first time it's really easy I would say try it at home before to give you a idea

then it's up off my neck all day and since it was wet when you put it up it stays wet most of the day (I have thick hair)

hope this helps someone =)

yes!! this sounds perfest. the biggest reason i ahte ponys are by the middle of the day the smaller pieces will start coming out and thats so annoying!!
i assume that what the spray gel is for. does it keep all the hair up? i really hate those pieces.

I tie mine back and thread it through the back of a baseball cap to keep the sun out of my eyes.

There's no point in fighting Florida humidity. It always wins.

I have to agree with you! We just returned and it was HOT! I have very thick hair - had it cut to my shoulders right before we left. The one day I tried to keep it down, I was DYING. THe rest of the days - ponytail through the baseball cap. No other way to survive for me. :lmao:

One evening I was able to put it "up" when it was still wet from my shower, but otherwise it's too thick for any type of clip!

I have super thick hair and in the winter I keep it at about a "barely touch the tops of my shoulders" length, then as it gets warmer, I quit getting it cut so I can wear it up for the hot months.

I use a big Goody barrette. I wash my hair and put spray gel in and scrunch the the ends. Then, I take my hair and pull it all back like I am going to put it in a pony-tail and then twist it up (at the base of the pony tail) a couple times and lay it against my head--like a french twist. Put the clip in and leave the ends out.

Sometimes, for variety, I part my hair on the side instead of combing it straight back. Or put the twist higher or lower.

Last trip I wore my hair back in a ponytail all trip and while it was cool on my neck, I hated the pictures. I have thick slightly wavy hair.

This year, I did one of two things.

1. I washed and dried it (I found Bed Head Control Freak serum works great on my hair and always put that in just after washing it. I just started trying Frizz-ease, too which actually helped in Florida.). I straightened it like I usually do. I pulled the very top bit into a barette just to keep it from hanging in my face.

I put a little more Frizz-ease in it and sprayed it with a little bit of hairspray. It actually worked really well. When it got too hot, I kept a hair tie with me, so I could pull it off my neck, but it was easy to take out for pictures.

2. I washed it in the morning and didn't dry it. I put both products in it, along with a little bit of mousse. I pulled it up in the same way. Letting it air dry with the products in it, made it wavy/curly as it dried. I added some hairspray to it and it never got too big for me. This was something I had a problem with before.

It worked well, because my hair was out of my face, yet easy to pull back loosely if it was too hot. And I could still have it down for pictures. It had been really humid here, so I tested out my products before I left.

Maybe they'll work for you. And wow, that was way too long!

Semi off topic (but same idea),

So if you guys choose a pony tail, how do you get it to not become all
icky in the middle of the day from all the rides and walking around. My hair is
insanely thick and no matter WHAT I do, it becomes a tangled mess within a few hours of a day out. Is there a trick to having a pony tail work with thick long hair?

O.k.- I HATE ponytails holders (They give me headaches!) and I hate clips and barrettes at Disney as everytime I ride something they smash into my head!

My new FAVORITE hair toy is a KnotHead! It's this long fabric covered piece of wire that you can use to create up-do's simply and it looks great! Plus, it stays in enough that pieces aren't falling out constantly, but doesn't give me a headache and since it lays flat, doesn't push into my head on rides! Yahoo!!

Here's the website:

There are sample hairstyles on there also. I use the tiny Knotheads on my 6 year old and she loves them, too! So pretty and they come out easily!

In Universal last week, I was doing either ponytail or pig tails.

I live here in Florida and I do the ponytail through the baseball cap most of the time but this last trip I bought one of those straw cowboy hats and did two braids and I think I was cooler with that then anything else. I also pulled my hair through my baseball cap and then braided it which helped with the messy puffy hair.
It was much easier to deal with my hair braiding it when it was wet then spending time trying to dry it and then do something. I'm just planning on braiding and wearing hats this next trip. no muss no fuss.

those look great. did you find them at a store near you? i would love to look at themk before i buy them.

I have thick straight shoulder-length hair and I love octopus clips! They're rounder than a butterfly and they really hold my hair. I can either twist it into a bun and use the larger octopus clip to hold all of it, or I can twist it up like a French twist and pop the clip over it and let the ends fall back down over the top. It's easy and I can do it without a mirror, making it great for adjustments throughout the day.

That being said, I think I'm getting mine chopped before our trip. IF I hit my weight loss goal -- I'm not ashamed to admit I hide my fat face behind all this hair!

No, but a friend of mine had one in her hair and when I commented on it, she took it out to show me and I also could see how easy it was to put back in! They aren't horribly expensive (like $10, I think), so I just went for it! Glad I did! I now have several and the little ones also!:thumbsup2

mostly, the hairspray helps it mostly too

like if you had tiny hairs in the back or sides no it probably won't help but I bobby pin thoses underneath and tuck the rest behind my ears but other than that it helps alot like I said try it before you leave then you will know :thumbsup2 I dont make it really tight bun I leave it kinda loose because my hair is curly so it made it hide the holder :yay:

I would post pics but I just had it all cut off and donated to locks of love haven't sent it in yet I found this style trying to find a way other then down while growing it out there isn't much :lmao:

I usually throw my hair back in a quick bun, but if you're in the pools and stuff I would suggest the Healthy Sexy Hair Line, the stuff is amazing and helps prevent damage

so what do you ladies do?

I like the Buff Coolmax Headbands -- http://www.planetbuff.com , or purchase via REI or other outdoors type retailers.

The Buff is so comfortable and easy to wear. It keeps my hair out of my face and up off the back of my neck, and helps protect my scalp from sunburn. Lots of different colors/patterns available, and various ways that you can wear them.
