Well, after lookin' over our contract about 2 weeks ago, I decided hmmmpphh, let's just pay off our DVC purchase! We would save a fair chunk o' change in interest (about $6000) in the long run, and I told DH that the usual monthly payment could now be directed into our little dd's college fund. Yay for us.
And now I hear all this "add-on" fever and think hmmm... maybe I should have used the payoff and my financial wizardry to convince dh to get an add-on (after all, $6000 is a nice add-on pool to draw from!
) Trouble is, my dh ain't the average bear -- he will be quick to point out that the $6000 isn't a tangible, in-hand savings (it's what we saved versus paying over the remaining years to go.) And small add-ons require up-front payment, no financing (and we just paid off the bigger contract.) And of course dd needs her education, just like her older brothers.... And with add-ons, there's the added fees, etc. Phooey. Double Phooey, at that. That Magic Squasher!
Oh well. At least I know we'll be getting a nice bit of "Giraffe cash" for this. We paid off the DVC using our ToysRUs visa (it gives 1% on all purchases, 4% on TRU purchases) With 3 kids under 10, I'm sure we'll use it! And hey, they sell Disney stuff too.... I have the Disney Visa, but it's just too limited in what you can use the paybacks for... sigh.
