Just heard new Florida state law went into effect on July 1. No smoking in any public places including hotel room. Can this be true? I have asthma so I am very excited. But it seems severe for smokers. How will they to enforce this in hotel rooms?

the hotels/resorts can still have smoking optional rooms available to smokers.

florida now prohibits smoking in most places with the exception of a few places, stand alone bars and also bars that sell less than 10% of food to the public. and a few others.

but, yes, all our restaurants will now be non smoking. i also read where all pleasure island is now non smoking and also the atlantic dance hall on the boardwalk, i think at jellyrolls you are still allowed to smoke.

:D

Basically, nothing changes at the resorts. They will still have smoking optional rooms and smoking areas outdoors. The restaurants have been non-smoking for quite some time.

Apparently Disney itself instituted the no-smoking policy for PI, which would not have been covered by the law otherwise since the clubs don't serve much food, if they serve food at all. Jellyrolls is not run by Disney and didn't go with the same program.

There'll probably be a few knots of smokers gathering outside the PI clubs, though.

I called our usual Daytona Beach resort to confirm that I requested nonsmoking for our September vacation. I was told that all rooms are nonsmoking due to the new Florida State Law.

I just returned from a July 13-18 stay at the Portofino Bay Hotel in Orlando, and I can assure you, smoking rooms are available. My sister had one. If the hotel you're staying at in Daytona has gone smoke free, it has nothing to do with the Florida Law.

Disney is experimenting with this in California. The Grand Californian Hotel at Disneyland has been all non smoking since it opened in 2001. The other two Disney hotels there still have smoking rooms. I do not know how this had gone over. I know the room we had overlooked a roof where I could see people had been throwing cigarette butts. They were going out onto the balconey.
Who knows how long until they give a try at WDW.

We stayed at VWL on July4 and had a smoking optional room, so all Disney resorts have not gone NS. We were given some information regarding the new law and Jellyrolls will still allow smoking, while Atlantic Dance and the restaurants will not allow it.

Unless Disney enforces this better than they do now nothing will change.

MY SIL and BIL booked a nonsmoking room at the Polynesian with a medical gaurantee. They got Fiji which is a nonsmoking building. Their room had been smoked in and people were on the balconies, and landings smoking everyday.

Will there still be designated areas in the parks to smoke or did that all get axed too?
