All May Cruises Will Definitely Cancel & June Cruises Will Probably Cancel

Cabanas would be modified from self serving to asking CM for items. Would that mean no self serve Eye Scream? What about the soda stations? Not sure if we're ready for that.
In my opinion, I think that is one of the measures that can become a permanent change, or at least stick around for a long time.

I can see how it would even save Disney some money. With selfservice you can overload your plate or go to the ice cream bar as 20x a day, without anyone really paying attention to it. But when that becomes a CM and you have to ask for an ice cream 20x a day, I think people will become a bit more self conscious and order less. And at the buffet the CM might have a different idea of portion size then the guest ;)
It takes an extra CM, but there will probably less food handed out.

We are on the June 27 cruise on the fantasy. I’m assuming it will cancel but I’m not going to give them my deposit at this point. We will just wait. I did cancel our air on United so I could get the future credit. If the cruise does go we would probably be willing to go. I’d be happy just to have all sea days. If and when Disney cancels we will take the refund. We definitely want the eastbound transatlantic next May. And with the 125% credit we would have way too much money left over since the transatlantic is so much cheaper. We have one night at Riveara reserved for the night before. I’ll probably cancel that soon to get our points back.

We are on that 6/26 cruise as well. I am totally fine with a refund. I think we may start vacationing in other places and pause our cruising for a few years.

I do not think they could close the kid’s clubs with Disney’s focus on families. They may close for a couple of hours for an extra cleaning or something. With all the self serve modifications that were done on the WBPC cruise, the only “change” at the clubs was that the overnight camp out was only until 2:00 am, so they could deep clean before they opened in the morning. Luckily, kids do not tend to have the same experience with Covid 19 as older people do.

They could restrict the number of kids allowed in at a given time though--or make it like the nursery where you get a set number of hours you can sign them up for.

I would also expect other restrictions when they start sailing, like know meet and greets with face characters, limited attendance in theaters, pirate party and sail away party cancelled to avoid crowds; pools closed. I'd still sail with such restrictions, but others might not.

Those buffet changes I prefer actually. I had never thought of kids club not being offered as a possible change. Like I said, I just blindly assumed a July 25 cruise would be canceled.

You can assume, and Disney can disagree. As the first post in this thread said, they are telling people that they can move cruises to July 1 and later.

I was coming up to 50% penalty this Saturday. I agonized for weeks whether I would gamble losing our deposit or losing 50%. I blinked and went with the deposit. The CM never mentioned whether I would get our deposit back if DCL canceled the cruise. She only reluctantly said I would after I mentioned reading it here on Disboards. She emphasized, "that at this time" they would refund the cancellation fees, but their policy has been changing from day to day. So I asked is there a possibility, I won't get our deposit back? CM said if they change their policy again, it might happened.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I do expect this will phase out at a certain point. The logic behind them refunding at this time is that for March-May cruises, it is pretty much a foregone conclusion that they will HAVE to cancel because they cannot sail in compliance with the CDC order, Florida stay-at-home/social distancing rules etc., so it is unfair for DCL to pocket money just because they dragged out the cancellation announcement even though they knew the cruise was cancelled. As restrictions lift later this summer and DCL could possibly reopen, I think the calculus changes a bit: it is no longer DCL pocketing money on cruises that everyone including DCL knew could not possibly sail; it is people cancelling cruises that makes DCL unable to sail because they don't have enough guests. At that point, DCL could more reasonably keep guests' deposits because DCL would have sailed if the guests had stayed.

We have an August 3rd Dream cruise booked. We'd be willing to sail if they have it. We're doing a DVC stay 9 nts before and 1 nt after. I just made a 'contingency plan' in case the resorts/parks are open but DCL is closed. I booked a DVC stay for those 4 nts so we won't be 'homeless' until our flight on 8/8...we have until 7/31 to cancel the DVC and bank those points (assuming DVC still has 'holding' on hold!) Hopefully DCL will keep making those decisions at least a week out.

What's wrong with ice cream 20x a day? ;)

Knowing how the CMs in the dining room try to load us up with food, I'm not sure how much food they'd save from serving people in Cabanas. :D
Oh, so true! I felt terrible wasting so much food that they HEAPED onto my plate. Even when I asked for just a little.

Our cruise is due to leave June 1on the Dream out of PC. I am just waiting for Disney to cancel. I have already cancelled flights and our rooms at WDW for the four days prior. So sad though - this was part of our granddaughters' Christmas present. I have already rebooked the same cruise for next year.

they are taking cruise reservations and park hotel reservations starting 6/1 with the hope that things will open up by then. Seems like a lot of wasted resources to book things you know you will have to turn around and refund back to the customer a few weeks later.

Especially when they have said repeatedly how much of an effort it is to provide the refunds.

It is not hard to provide refunds at WDW. DCL is a different system.

It looks like DCL is blocked to about mid month now.

The only June cruises available to book right now are June 21 and 26 - 5 night Bahamas and June 20, 7 night Western Caribbean. I am booked on the June 12

that probably means the next rolling cancellation announcement will cancel everything up through 6/19/20.
