I am planning a trip for next summer for us and 2 other couples to a tropical retreat. Judging on what we spent on alcohol in Chicago last weekend, we need to go all inclusive!

We are not taking the kids, but the resort doesn't have to be adults only, but prob don't want one designed for families. Kind of thinking Puerto Rico, then we don't need passports, but that's not a deal breaker.

Where have you guys stayed and what were your opinions of the places? I tried to research Mexico, but there are so many places, I don't know where to being.

What about the Dominican Republic? I've been hearing a lot of chatter about there, too.

Thanks so much! As soon as we get back from Disney in August, I need to get planning on this one.

We are going to an all inclusive, adults only resort (Mexico) at the end of July. I will let you know how it turns out. It is supposed to be really nice, and I got a great deal.
Couples Resort in Ochos Rios, Jamicia is nice. Also, Moon Palace in Mexico is swank, but is not adults only. It is large enough that you don't notice the kids.

We vacationed in Jamaica at an all inclusive resort and loved it! It was Sans Souci Lido in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. It was an adults only resort and it was so nice. Plus there were a lot of excursions you could do outside of the resort. But there was a lot to do on the resort too so you never had to leave if you didn't want.

Well, if you REALLY want no kids...Hedonism... :thumbsup2

And my sister and her dh LOVED Sandals St Lucia. :goodvibes

We stayed at the Sandals Royal Bahamian last year. The gorgeous pool, the private island, the hammocks big enough for two....I nearly cried when we had to leave.

In fact, I might start crying now just thinking about it!

it's funny you mentioned both places I've stayed down there.

The first place was in the DR. We actually stayed in Samana, which is only starting to develop. I don't know what kind of travellers you guys are, but we *loved* the fact that this place was isolated. It's in the north of the Dominican and only has a few major resorts. We stayed at the Bahia Principe there, right on the beach and a short taxi ride to a small town nearby ( Las Terrenas ). It wasn't the hugest resort, but it was nice and intimate with a buffet dining room and 3 "a la carte" restaurants.

The other place we stayed at was in Mexico, in Riviera Maya. We stayed at the Grand occidental Xcaret. The good, this resort is just beautiful, tucked away in the forest, right next to their "ecological theme park" ( You even one free admission to it for staying here ), fun entertainment, good restaurant choices, amazing pools. The only thing is that because they are on the rocky part of the ocean, they've created a small man-made beach. It IS on the ocean, but it's like a carved in alcove where the ocean poors into. This could actually be a positive if you like the idea of a small private beach. ( we enjoyed it a lot ), but because of the way it's made, you don't relaly get waves. The resort is also a 15 minute drive to Playa Del Carmen if you want to hit a *HUGE* beach and shopping district. and it's not far from The Tulum Mayan ruins.

two different experiences, but we enjoyed both immensely.

DH and I have been to Sandals Negril and Whitehouse in Jamaica. Love them both!

Recently we were at the Sandals Regency in St. Lucia. Love it too!

I am going away *alone* for the 1st time with Dh to celebrate our anniversary this July. I have been looking into all inclusive resorts for the several weeks now. I think you will get the most for your money in Mexico or Dominican Republic. Jamaica has a lot of really nice all inclusives too. There is a RUI Paradise Island Bahamas that is in wallking distance to the Atlanitis. I was originally booked there but switched to the Atlantis with the meal plan.
Anyways, that RUI Paradise Island will be closed this fall, going under a total renovation. It is right on the beach and a 2 minute walk to Atlantis. You can buy a day pass to use the Atlantis waterparks and such and to go to the casino at night it is free to get in to that.
