All Hands on Deck - not impressive!

If I can remember it had an assortment of swiss, cheddar, gouda, bluecheese, brie.

I have gotten different variations of the above at different times as well as a different assortment of crackers each time.

LOL, by this point I was wondering the same thing!!

Thanks for the answer MJ:D

Oh my gosh! I have to try one of these things now. I've heard both good and bad and I've never seen a fuzzy grape. This should be a real treat. LOL

Mine also had celery and that with the blue on the verandah was a slice of heaven. Now it also went with a beer and a great breeze - perhaps we don't paint the ENTIRE picture when we enthusiastically describe our experiences!

Just an observation....maybe we all have to tone down our enthusiasm for things onboard when we describe them and take the descriptions with a grain of salt....we seem to always build things up and then others go and seem to be let down.

I had this experience, not here, but over on the restaurant board. So many people love Boma, and my expectations were high. So what, with normal expectations, would have been a lovely meal turned out to be a major disappointment. Worse, we saved it for the last night of the trip, so we were leaving with the worst meal we had for the trip, rather than the best.

Now I bop into nearly every Boma thread over there to add what I think is realism to the unbridled enthusiasm. I do the opposite as well as possible - for instance, so many people hate the glass bottom boat tour out of Nassau. We didn't have high expectations, had a lovely day for going around the Nassau harbor and had a fine time. And now I take everything with a grain of salt.

I, for one...really enjoyed it. So much, I ordered it every night! LOL I am a big cheese fan. The first night it came with pepperidge farm crackers, the 2nd night it was Breton type crackers. The last two nights I got the waverly type crackers (must have ran out of the good stuff!) I really thought it was delicious. Not fancy, not elaborate...but if you like cheese and crackers and red grapes. It's a great, healthy midnight snack! We, definitely, took FULL advantage of room service. We ordered from them everynight!

1. I loved the cheese platter. It was kind of a nice treat to see how it would be different each night. Different cheeses, crackers, grapes/no grapes. It was fun and kind of mixed it up a bit!

2. crisi - SERIOUSLY...what is the big deal about Boma. People Pen. That should tip people off as to the enviroment, let alone, the meal. ICK! We went five or six times whenever my SIL was with us b/c we thought it was her favorite. And finally the last time, I noticed her picking at her food, and I said something. Turns out that she only acted like she liked Bomas b/c she thought I wanted to go there and I only went there b/c I thought she wanted to go there. We have never been back!!!

I just asked my dh (the cheese connoisseur in our family) about the cheese platter. One afternoon on our cruise last February, he ordered 3 of the platters (he was afraid there wouldn't be enough for the four of us!). I, too, was a little disappointed with the chesse platters after reading about them on these boards, but for my husband they were just what he was expecting (just 3 times as much!). We did manage to finish just about all the food on the 3 platters!

P.S. My dd loved the tomato soup, which she said went very well with the chesse platter.

I totally agree with the cheese platter not being what we thought. It was just a dinner plate with 2 pieces each of 4 different cheese. It was yummy but not what we expected. We had keebler crackers on ours :) But it was alright because we ordered cookies & milk too & these are GREAT!! The cookies look a little burnt but they are soft in the center YUM!!!

I know this is a little off topic - but one poster spoke of Boma....

we too went there for the first time before our cruise as we were staying at AKL. I was SO looking forward to it...I lived in S Africa for a year during high school and while I realize it is not traditional African food....a lot of the restaurants over there are setup as Boma is.
We had a nice dinner but it was not as GREAT as I had expected.....on the other hand

we also ate at California Grill..I had read on these boards that it was stuffy, not for kids etc.....we had a FABULOUS meal and will definitely be back there.

Lesson learned.....go with no expectations and be suprised!
