After reading so much about this we ordered it on two different nights last week.

The first night came and it was an assortment of cheeses and a row of Waverly crackers and a small bunch of grapes.

The next night, the same cheeses only this time it had Ritz type crackers.

The cheese assortment was nice but I guess I was expecting Pepperidge Farm quality and assortment on the crackers and even a bit better presentation.

I love cheese (especially with wine) so we would definitely order it again I just don't think it lived up to the hype its had here on the board as of late.

I agree, it wasn't what I expected either. I had ordered it in the past and it just wasn't the same. It is still worth ordering though.

How could you go wrong??

It's cheese... It's crackers....It's FREE!!!!!!

(And they deliver it to you!):)

I know I know.....(and it's not free, we pay for it in the hefty fare)

but after reading about it on here...in my mind I had envisioned a much more elaborate looking platter......it was something that comes from my kitchen once a week.

Just an observation....maybe we all have to tone down our enthusiasm for things onboard when we describe them and take the descriptions with a grain of salt....we seem to always build things up and then others go and seem to be let down.

I loved the cheese platter and was not expecting much more than cheese, crackers, some fruit so I was happy with it.

Not everyone will experience the same things the same ways...part of life.

I felt the same way when I ordered it last year. After the ravings here I expected some amazing platter with a million kids of cheese and different crackers. Now there was nothing wrong with it , and I enjoyed it, but nothing like I anticipated. Sometimes our expectations can be raised too high.

I guess I really enjoyed it, but maybe it was partly because it was FREE! It was so nice to have this cheese tray in the room to nibble on while we were getting ready for the evening.

I suppose if I had to pay for it, I might feel differently, but for FREE it is quite nice!

It is not free at all. All of these type items are figured in the price of the cruise. It is simply "prepaid" in the cost of the cruise.

I know it seems funny to me that people think things like this are free....they are definitely figured into our hefty travel price!

One very good reason to order a lot of room service. All food, entertainment, etc is factored into the price--so everyone get your money's worth!!

I was very disappointed with it also. There was too many funky cheeses and our grapes had fuzzy stuff on them. They didn't last very long. I guess I expected more fruit and I didn't expect crackers. I would have been happier with cheese and fruit. I think we ended up eating one of the cheeses and the rest got pitched just because the cheese was too weird for us. Don't know what I was expecting as far as types of cheese but I guess I wasn't expecting weird cheeses.

Of course it is figured into the cost of the cruise, I realize that. I guess I should have said that it was 'no extra charge'. In other words, I was not out any more money to order it or not to order it. If there were an 'extra' charge for the item, then I might expect more (depending on the extra charge).

This is my fave room service item. I really enjoy the Stilton cheese with the grapes. Mmm..........

Just goes to show, everyone's tastes are different. :D

Just a question.. but doesn't it "cost extra" if you order through room service? Because of tips?

I know maybe $1-$2 but that's "extra".

I've never tried it, so I don't know. But I'm sure we'll try it and now we may be pleasantly suprised since now I expect a paper plate with chunks of weird cheese, crackers & fuzzy grapes! LOL It will be an experience!

I'm trying not to build this whole cruise thing up too big, but when you're planning a trip for over a year it is hard not to romantisize it too much! I'm hoping we won't be one of the "dissapointed" group. Sometimes you can get your expectations up so high that even the royal treatment the Queen would get wouldn't be good enough.

I still love these boards!!

I know what you mean about building everything up...for the most part everything will live up to your expectations....it did mine and it many cases it exceeded them...

unfortunately it was not the case with the cheese platter....

One thing we did with room service and it worked out GREAt both times. I brought zip lock baggies and tin foil. The night before our land excursions, I would order sandwiches, cheese platter and cookies. I wrapped everything up and stored it in our cooler. The next morning I would pack ice (put into double zip lock bags to keep food dry) and store the food into the collapsible insulated canvas lunch bag we always bring.

We would have free food for lunch during our excursion and saved a bundle not buying on-land lunch. You can even order bagels for breakfast with cream cheese or jelly or whatever and make those up and take those instead. If the bag is insulated, it really keeps everything cold. We would freeze small water bottles also (that takes about two days in the cooler) and use those as "ice bottles" to keep the food cold.

That's one way to get your money's worth!
