All Hail The King!!!!

I've never read the books, well actually I read the Hobbit years ago, but I don't even remember. The movie was still EXCELLENT!! There were many parts that made me sit up in my seat!

The battle scenes...SPECTACULAR....Legolas and Gimli counting who killed the most...HILARIOUS!!! Sam's friendship....PHENOMONAL!!! The whole trilogy...VERY WELL DONE....VERY WELL!!!

I just have no idea what to look forward to next year. For three years it was The Matrix and Lord of the Rings....and both are finished...so now, I'm lost! :worried:

For a 3 1/2 hour movie, time flew by...way to quickly.

As for my hottie Legolas....I didn't see enough of him in the movie, but what was shown....OH MY MY!!!! :love2: :lovestruc

This won't be a spoiler, so I'll tell ;)

Saruman and Wormtongue escape from Treebeard (or are released, not sure) and head to the Shire where they take it over. The Hobbits to conquer in the end.

Also they skip over the fact that Boromir and Eowyn marry. I thought that was kind of a nice fact to know. Maybe it will be in the extended edition.

Tiggerlover-I am still looking forward to the extended edition next year!

Gina-old age??? LOL probably not. More likely just a tribute to how beautifully these movies are made! I'm so glad you liked it! It sure was worth waiting for!!!!

BriarfoxinWA, I got a little upset with one particular change they made so I can understand why your friend complained a little. I can understand why they left out a lot of what CRB#33 said (about the Shire along with Grima and Saruman as well as the Eowyn and Faramir romance) especially since the movie was 3.5 hours and they had *so* much to cover from TT and ROTK books. But a few things, I just thought were totally unecessary. Of course I totally loved the movie in it's own right, and I think over all it was excellent!!

I personally think this series is the absolute best trilogy that has ever been made, even beating out the original Star Wars. :bounce:

We saw ROTK yesterday morning, and what a great movie. We all still like the first one best, but these sure aren't far away.

And CRB -- it's Faramir and Eowyn. :) And I suspect it'll be in the extended edition. But even without having read the books (only finished with the first one), my entire party (6 people) caught on that Eowyn and Faramir were standing together at Aragorn's ceremony and we figured they were a couple, if not married. :)

What none of us caught, was that Eomer was crowned king of Gondor in Eowyn's place since she married Faramir. I found that out from the Trivial Persuit game, but my DH (who has read all of them) knew that.

I can't wait for the extended edition of ROTK, and am excited about Peter Jackson planning to make the Hobbit. I wonder if he'll do any others? I've never read it, but would be curious to know if there's enough story and excitement in the Silmarillion to make a movie? I want to know more about that book, but don't think I'll be able to get through it.

Oops! :o (I knew that ;) )

Actually, King Theoden appointed Eomer as his heir before he died. In the appendices, it says that Eowyn was known as the Lady of the Shield-arm because her shield-arm was broken by the mace of the Witch-king.

It is so much fun diving into these books and watching the movies! What a tribute to Tolkien!

I bought my DD The Silmarillion for Christmas (she asked for it). I've heard it is a challenge to read and if you get through it, it feels like quite an accomplishment! I'll let you know if she gets through it!

I thought Theoden told Eowyn *she* was to lead, should he not return? His thought being that neither he nor Eomer would survive? (At least, that's what it was in the movie, I thought)

I think that is probably the case, but it could be just another of those "poetic license" type of things. In the book Eomer is crowned King of Rohan. Theoden most definitely appoints him. There are things like that throughout all three movies.

They're still good though :)

<-------I love the Kind of Gondor!

I heard that Peter Jackson would like to make The Hobbit, but unfortunately there are issues about getting the rights to film it. JRR Tolkien sold the rights to Lord of the Rings before his death, so that is why they were able to make those movies. Tolkien's family, however, still own the rights to The Hobbit, and it doesn't sound like they are interested in selling. They weren't happy about the LOTR movies being made.

There are some great stories in The Silmarillion, Rajah! There are too many to make just one movie. It explains how Middle Earth was created, the elves, dwarves, men, etc. There is one story about Beren (a mortal man) and Luthien (an elf-woman, an ancestor of Arwen). Luthien gives up her immortality to be with Beren. It is a touching story.

I don't wish to sound rude, but GAD! Are they idiots???!!!

Do they have any idea what these movies have done for Tolkien's Legacy? I never would have even paid attention to the books if it hadn't wouldn't have been for the movies. NOW, I can't get enough of this stuff!

George who?
Steven WHO?

Well done Mr. Jackson!

We saw the 12:01 am showing of this movie on opening day 12/18 at the AMC theater at DTD. They sold out 7 almost 8 theaters there. We were in the theater where the first showing started. The FREAKS of Orlando were out in mass. It turns out the Orlando fan club picked the same showing for their group movie experience. They gave out door prizes. They gave out prizes for those dressed in costume. I swear, it was surreal. There were 30 year old men being dropped off by their mothers and everyone was talking about some sort of AD&D or video role playing game. Needless to say, this was NOT our crowd.

We arrived about 30 minutes early. We thought we would get a good seat and wait for the movie to start. No such luck. We ended up on the back wall of the balcony seating. It was wall to wall people. There were people that had been waiting to get in since 10:00 am on 12/17. It was just nuts.

The movie was great, but with all the cheering and yelling and clapping, I know that we missed some stuff. I want to see it again, but I want to do it here in Atlanta, where it's not so freaky. lol Maggie

We just saw it yesterday as well. Loved it despite the omissions from the book. But, I can see where Jackson had to cut because of time issues. Now, I just can't wait unti the extended version. Of course, now I have to explain everything to my family who hasn't read the books! Though, I did get my sister started on reading them, which is cool, since she wasn't the one liked to read growing up!:)

I was lukewarm to parts I and II at first. I really needed to watch them over again and get all of the characters names and historys straight (I never read the books). After I got it all down, I could not wait until part III. It was awesome. The time flew by quickly. I noticed a few grown men wiping tears away.:D The Academy should definitely give the Oscar to this one.:D

I saw it for the third time on Friday (yeah, I'm a LotR freak:rolleyes: ) and I think I've liked it more each time I've seen it. I think it's amazing that it's held my attention for the entire 3 1/2 hours all 3 times I've seen it...my attention span is really not that long!

I'm a major fan of the books, too, and I can understand why Peter Jackson changed most of the things he changed, but there are still a few things that make me mad.
