Just read an article about a problem with defective fridges across all Disney World & Disney Land Resort Hotels. It also affects Aulani.

Apparently, due to a defect, all fridges need to be removed/disconnected and replaced and Disney expect it to take 4 months to complete. All guests affected will receive a letter explaining.

Apparently, the only resorts that are not affected are the DVC Resorts & Fort Wilderness.

It shouldn't affect our trip in October because we staying at a DVC resort but it could affect anyone staying on-site between now and November. I know a lot of people rely on their in-room fridges, so I thought I'd give you a heads up.

Thanks going to suck!

A fridge is a big deal for us.

I thought exactly the same thing when I read it, but apparently, DVC resorts are fine. If they are saying it will take 4 months to complete, some resorts will be done sooner than others, but my guess would be they're going to start with the deluxe resorts first and work their way down through the moderates and finally the value resorts because obviously guests at deluxe pay more and expect more.

I called earlier as my DD needs her eye medications refrigerated and was told POFQ should have new fridges long before our November trip. She said they were hoping to have the whole of the Port Orleans resort rooms with new fridges by August. Of course, I took this with a pinch of salt so she assured me that we can get a fridge by request or have the resort chill the medication if all doesn't go as planned! :thumbsup2

Oh dear! This isn't good news but if they're defective then I guess it has to be done. Luckily I'm staying at OKW in October.

I just talked to the IPO at the Poly and they said the refrigerators were not being removed or disconnected.

I don't understand why they can't replace them simultaneously in batches?

I am staying at the disneyland hotel at the end of month and would be asking for a part refund or upgrade if this goes ahead as I am not getting what I have paid for?

Interesting. One of us has been given incorrect information because when I called earlier, they told me that it affected all of the resorts other than those I previously mentioned. It seems that other people who have called have also been told they fridges are being removed and disconnected too. I don't know, I just thought it was best to give people a heads up because some people (myself included) need a fridge for medications.

I need a fridge because it will be August and, frankly, I paid to get one it is clearly advertised. This is a monumental pain in the butt.

There was a fire in one of the rooms, so they've had to do them all at the same time due to safety. :goodvibes

Its the smaller ones that have the housing around.

I think the Disneyland hotel is fine as is the AoA & All Stars, they have larger fridges. :thumbsup2

We too rely on the fridge, so can imagine people getting upset at there not being one. Esp as many pre-order groceries.

We have been given info on this and any fridge affected will be unplugged and tied with a seal.

If you need a fridge you can request one and is based upon individual needs so I am assuming medication will be given priority.

I think a lot of these will be done fairly quickly. I know the time scale is 4 months but that's an overestimated time scale to allow for any problems.
Ive looked at the main thread on the resort forum, some people have rung their hotel and they've stated the fridges at some resorts are expected to be done by end July-early August. :)

Just checked the layout of the yacht club rooms and it looks like our room has two sinks. So I'm thinking we'll fill one sink with ice and use that to chill any bottles of drink we may have.
That's if it's not sorted by September, which I'm going it will be!

You might be better going to Wal-Mart and grabbing a huge polystyrene cool box, they are really cheap. The sinks in the resorts just don't keep water in them very long, the plug things aren't very tight. When we got caught in a hurricane we got a polystyrene box and it was a god send with the fridge as well as we weren't allowed out of our rooms for two days!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm hoping people who are going soon can update us on the fridge situation. I only ever choose hotel rooms with a fridge so it's a bit frustrating, but still, I'd rather be safe.

The Pop room i'm in has a has Fridge.
