This might sound like a strange question, but I noticed some of the deluxe resorts have their own lakes with swimming beaches and wondered how safe they could possibly be. Don't they worry about aligators getting in?

there are signs EVERYWHERE warning about alligators. So yes, they worry about it. as to how often one gets in, I don't know.

They are not swimming beaches. No swimming is allowed. They are for sunning and playing on only.

Some of the moderates also have beaches as well.

Someone recently posted a picture of little one in the parking lot at Grand Floridian.

Maybe I looked at some old pictures. I swear I saw people swimming at the Poly. Thanks

In addition to the wildlife, the big problem is a bacteria in Florida lakes that is most prominent in the shallow water. It can be deadly. Several kids died last year from it. No way would we step foot in the water.

Remember that Disney World is a big wildlife preserve. Whatever gets in, gets in. Including alligators. Once one is spotted, it is removed and relocated to a less populated area of the property. If you do see one, do NOT provoke it. Do not let your kids or any other person attempt to "pet it". Do not approach it. Tell a Cast Member and let Disney handle it.

There are definitely alligators at WDW...we saw one in the CSR lake in 2006 when we were there.

One hangs out at the BCV canal as well.

But No swimming at any of the Beaches or lakes.

Yes people still do it and you use to be able to a long time ago (they even talked about a wave generator that would hit the Poly for surfing).

but besides the gators and Snakes you have dangerous bacteria and ameoma that are deadly as well.

So play in the sand and stick to the Pools for swimming or one of the WaterParks.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the amoebas. Thanks for reminding me (very scary). I love the alligators, but know to stay away. Here in Michigan, there's very little wildlife that can kill you, so it takes some getting used to when we travel!

There are definately gators. When I was a CM I had a friend who was a lifeguard at Stormalong Bay. There was a small gator in the pool aread one day...only a baby really and it chased him up a tree. He never lived that down...it was just a baby gator...maybe 4 feet long nose to tail.

We just saw one...on the bus going from Beachclub to the Magic Kingdom, the driver showed it to us and said it was about 8 feet!! He also mentioned that the official word is that there are no gators on Disney property, lol!

We saw the one at BC last summer..She has been there for years.

I found it rather stringy myself..tasted okay, but awfully darn chewy texture wise.
