The last time I was at Disney, sadly, was about 12 years ago. I am trying to recall a ride but am not sure if it was at Disney or not....

I vividly recall a ride where we were strapped into a big room that was supposed to be some sort of space-craft with an alien in a big glass cylinder in the center. Half way through the lights go out and when they come back on there's a giant hole in the cylinder and of course...no alien. Then the lights keep going off and you feel the breath on your neck and get sprayed with water, etc....Am I remembering this correctly and if so, did this ride exist at Disney?

Yes, it was "Alien Encounter," which is now the much-reviled "Stitch's Great Escape." Same basic structure and premise (strap you into your seat and turn out the lights).

Yes, you're talking about Alien Encounter which was in Tomorrowland. Unfortunately, that attraction is no longer there. The attraction they have now, is a more dumbed down version. Instead of an alien, they have Stitch. IMO (and many others), it is one of the most useless attractions in WDW.

Yes, you are remembering correctly. It was alien encounter - in tomorrowland.
It is now Stitch's Great Escape.
The best thing that ever happened to me with that ride was when it broke down and we got special FP's for any other ride!

Wow no love for this ride at all  Tell me how you really feel :)

I thought it was so-so but for little kids it's pretty good as far as I remember.

I remember riding it for the first time when I was 12 just me & my dad because my mom and sister were too scared to try it. It was SCARY! We both came out talking about how terrified we were and how real it seemed. A couple years later, we went on another trip and my mom and sister decided they wanted to try it. Me & dad tried talking them out of it, telling them how scary it was, but couldn't convince them so the 4 of us rode. Well, they had made it significantly less intense by then, and mom & sister basically made fun of us for thinking it was "so scary". :lmao: I still think they don't believe us that they altered the attraction, and think we are just chickens!

Definitely prefer that over Stitch's Great Escape though, and I adore Stitch.

I loved AE. Stitch needs very badly to be turned into another ride...:upsidedow

I have not been back to Disney since they changed from AE to Stitch but I know when we rode AE 11 yrs ago I could not enjoy the ride because of the poor little kid a couple of seats down screaming at the top of it's lungs and the mother couldn't get to him because she was strapped in! I felt so bad and from that point on I warned everyone I met NOT to take their little ones on that ride without previewing it themselves first. I was happy to hear they had 'watered it down' for the sake of the kids even if that means a less exciting experience for grown ups.

AE was great! Probably too intense for little kids. I think changing it from an alien to Stitch it sort of mean for little kids--they are expecting a cute fuzzy guy & he's crazy.

That was the ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter! (You would think that parents would realize it's scary by the name :lmao:) When I was a kid, this ride TERRIFIED me. I wish I could ride it as an adult... I think I'd really appreciate it's darker tone! But it also would make more sense in a park like DHS rather than MK. Just my thoughts :goodvibes

AE for little kids? LOL, I was about 30 when I did it and remember it as pretty freaky.

The first time that I rode "Alien" there was a little girl next to me who was terrified and her partents were a couple of seats down and couldn't get to her so I didn't really enjoy the ride because I spent the whole time talking to her and trying to calm her down. The second time I rode it I was highly entertained by some older teens who were also terrified and screamed like little kids. I like Alien much better than Stitch.

i never rode Alien, but I'll never forget the looks on my DH and sons faces when they came out of the attraction. It scared the daylights out of all three of them. While they were in line, I spent my time watching people leave the ride. Not one person was smiling. I even witnessed a few tears. It was pretty scary when it first opened and I knew I wouldn't be able to handle it.

Then, they changed it to include Stitch. I absolutely loathe that character. I've never been on the ride and intend to keep it that way as long as Stitch is involved.
