Alien Encounter gave me PTSD!! A Dec '14 PTR **Life Update 5/11 & 5/15**

So happy to hear that both your Mom and Aunt did well with their surgeries.

Yay for Mom! I am glad they found a solution and I hope she enjoys good health from now on. Now I am thinking about your aunt. Stay positive! :D

Excellent news for your mom!

Good to hear your mom did well with surgery. Please keep us updated on her and your Aunt.

I read your update on your mother yesterday and thought that I had posted but apparently I didn't. So glad to hear that her surgery went well and that she may be going home tomorrow. How is your aunt?

So happy to hear that both your Mom and Aunt did well with their surgeries.

Thank you, all of you! :grouphug:

Mom (and Aunt) Update:
I don't have a ton of info on my aunt Iris, but I do know her surgery was a success and she came through the surgery and recovery very well!

Mom's surgery took twice as long as expected, but there were no actual complications, just took longer than they thought it would. Her recovery was not quite as smooth, as the epidural didn't do much for pain so she was in horrible pain. Once she was moved up to a room (4 hours after her surgery) she was still in a lot of pain and just wanted to leave. Dad and I calmed her down some and helped her get more comfortable. They left the epidural in with a port for her to press for more meds to help her control the pain for the first 24 hours (it was removed noon yesterday). Unfortunately Mom is allergic to all strong pain meds, so all she can take is extra strength Tylenol and it's not helping the pain much at all.

The good news is that about an hour ago the doctor told her the incision looks great and she is being released sometime this morning, once the paperwork is done. I'm sure she will be more comfortable at home. My sister is off today and tomorrow and will be staying with her, then my Dad has off Sunday to care for her. By then she should be feeling good enough to do some things for herself. My cousin will also be there much of next week to help her with things she needs. And of course I'll be helping whenever I can. So, she's in a lot of pain still, but otherwise doing well and recovering well from the surgery.

Thank you, all of you! :grouphug:

That's great news that your mom is going home and both surgeries were a success! You must be so relieved.

Your plans for every day at WDW sound like so much fun! And I had no idea there was a Goofy Santa! I'm going to have to look for him.

Great news for your aunt and your mother! Surgery is rough, but I can't imagine being allergic to pain medication and having surgery! Your mom's a trooper!

I'm glad that the surgery went well and recovery is off to a good start. I'm so sorry about the pain meds issue your mom is going through. Tylenol just doesn't cut it for that kind of pain. :headache:

Thanks! My aunt is still in the hospital due to her age and needing rehab for the shoulder, but is doing well. Mom is feeling better every day.

Goofy Santa meets right in the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights :santa:

Yes she is. She was not handling the pain well at all at first, but is better now.

No it does not, not even 800mg. But it is taking the edge off at least for her, which is better than nothing I guess!

Glad to hear all surgeries went well and mom was coming home. I hope all are feeling much better at the start of a new week.

Thanks! Mom is feeling much better now, though she is still on limited activity for a while.

Got caught up on your plans and am following along. I share your struggle with having aging animals and those with health issues - my Simba is always a concern for me with his old age and health issues.

I'm glad both surgeries went well for your mom and your aunt. That's always a very scary thing to wait and see how it goes, but good news is the best news!

Thanks for joining in! My first dog when I was a teenager was named Simba, but he passed away years ago. I hope your Simba continues to be with you for a while still.

Thank you very much! We were all worried about both of them, but they are both doing well.

Sorry for being MIA for a while, life has been crazy lately! Not only helping my Mom still (she is recovering well, but still cannot drive or pick up anything over 5 lbs for another week) but my sister's cat decided to try to die on us 3 weeks ago and is still recovering. He is only 8 but stopped eating and moving suddenly 3 weeks ago. My sister rushed him to the emergency vet and he has pancreatitis and fatty liver disease. The liver issue was because of not eating so getting food in him was what was needed to correct that, but even after 3 days staying at the e-vet they couldn't get him to eat anything. So he got a feeding tube put in and we have all been helping to tube feed him every 6 hours for the last 2.5 weeks, since work schedules prevent any one person from doing it. He is much improved now and eating some on his own, but still not quite enough for the vet to feel comfortable taking the tube out. If he is still doing well by next Wednesday they will take it out then. Thankfully all of my fur-children are still doing well. Phoenix is still not showing any signs of his cancer, Jynx is actually eating better than ever for the past few days, Sweetie is fine and I just did bloodwork on both Jag and Turk and while they have slightly elevated kidney levels, it is still not at a level for concern and is normal for their ages (both are about 12.5 years old!).

So, with all of that and work, and life in general I haven't had much time to get on here! I do have some time this morning, so after I do a TR update for my May trip I will be back here to do an update here!

Oh, and George and I got our Mickey Mail on Wednesday!!!! :cheer2::dance3: And look at my ticker, one month from today we will be at WDW!!!! pixiedust:

Yuck... sorry about the tube fed cat. Not fun at all for any of you! I'm glad to know that Phoenix is still doing well!

Always nice to get those things that let you know the trip is around the corner. Next up for us is Magic Bands. I keep checking our account for an update on shipping status! :rotfl2:

Wow, that sounds like a lot of craziness! My cousins had to do a feeding tube with their Bulldog a few years ago and I remember how much work that was for them.

Glad the rest of your fur babies are doing great.

Yeah for Disney in 1 month! :cool1: :dance3: I've got 8 days left and as you can see I'm not getting anything done here at work today. I just can't concentrate on work right now!

Yeah, tube feeding sucks. But Duke is a sweetheart of a cat and very good for it, so that helps.

I checked our MBs this morning, since customization ended yesterday for us. Love seeing that it will be shipping soon! :woohoo:

It is a lot of work, but he is being so good for it so it's a lot less stressful.

Thanks!

I know you are excited to go! I am getting ready to go and get caught up on your TR and PTR! :goodvibes

Day Four, Thursday December 25th
Christmas Day!

We will be getting up around 6am this day, showering and heading over to OPR for breakfast. Once we eat we will go to the OPR bus stop and hop on the first bus heading here:

The park opens at 8am and we hope to be there by 7:30-7:40am to make sure we get in right away! We will probably head right over to one of the attractions we don't have a FP+ for that day, most likely this one:

We will need to go right over to the other side of the park after that. Depending on how long is takes us to ride that we might wander thru Pagani Forest Trail, or we might have to head to our first FP+ of the day on my favorite attractions, Kilimanjaro Safari!

Right after our African adventure we will do Pagani, if we didn't before the FP+ time, and Rafiki's Planet Watch. We are hoping for a cool animal exam to be going on that day, but either way we will have fun.

After we take the train back we will walk into Asia for our second FP+ of the day, Expedition Everest!

This is one of the attractions George is most looking forward to, and one I definitely love! We may try to head through Maharajah Jungle Trek after if we have time. Otherwise we will do it after lunch, which we think will most likely be here:

BBQ is George's favorite type of food, and I very much enjoy the food here too so it will make a great Christmas Lunch spot. I really hope we get a spot to sit on the water, as that is such a lovely spot to eat at.

After lunch we have our third FP+ of the day for an attraction I'm not sure we will do. It all depends on the weather, as it's Kali River Rapids. If it's a colder day then we will probably skip it, otherwise we will do it since I really enjoy the theming. So, we will see what happens.

The rest of the afternoon will be spent doing whatever we can. Certainly Maharajah Jungle Trek if we didn't have time before lunch, Flights of Wonder, Nemo maybe, It's Tough to be a Bug, the Oasis trails, etc. We won't worry about FotLK as we have a FP+ for it our second day there. Basically whatever we can do, we will do. I have to see some of my friends though:

We have our dinner ADR at a place that gets mixed reviews, but I've always enjoyed:

Our ADR is at 6:40pm and the park closes at 8pm that day. If we get done in time we may try to get another ride in or either something we missed or whatever George most loved. Once the park closes we will head back to CBR and get to bed, since it would have been a long day by then!

Great plans for your Animal Kingdom day, Stephanie. I thought that I read somewhere that Flame Tree was about to undergo a refurb but I can't remember where I read it or when.

Thanks!

I just looked it up, and it doesn't close until January 5, 2015, so we will be good. Looks like it will be closed for 3 months to do an overhaul of the seating areas and new roof on the ordering area.

Good plan for Christmas Day! I would imagine that AK might be the best park choice for Christmas, and you can't go wrong with lunch at Flame Tree!!!

I knew that I had read something about a refurb. At least I know I'm not going crazy. :rotfl: or should I say crazier. :lmao:
