Alice in Wonderland?

Anyone see Alice yet? We're planning on going this week and I was just wondering what everyone thought.

We saw it today. We rarely pay for first run movies but all 3 kids really wanted to see it. I enjoyed the look of it, the 3D, but Alice was never one of my favorites. In fact, it's probably my least favorite story. But I liked it better then the cartoon. My kids however, loved it!

I was so not impressed with it at all. It had its good parts, but not my fav Tim Burton film at all.

I should have also said, I didn't want to go. I wanted DH to take the kids but he wasnted it to be a family thing. I am glad the kids went since they enjoyed it, I wish I had my money back and DH is somewhere in the middle. He thought it was OK.


I am bummed because we also splurged for A Christmas Carol and I wasn't impressed with it either. I won't be paying for 3D for myself anymore till Toy Story 3D.

I saw it last night and loved it! I love Tim Burton, love Johnny Depp, and love Alice so this was just right up my alley. I thought it was visually beautiful and the characters and story were ironic, dark, and perfect.

I'm probably going to put it on my Netflix queue.

I would say yes. I enjoyed the movie, but parts could be quite scary for a 3 year old I think.

It would definitely be too scary for my 3 year old. It's a very "dark" version.

We really enjoyed it; DM and I took DD as a "ladies day" treat; DD loved it! Can't wait til the movie comes out on DVD. I was afraid it might be too much for DS but now I think he would have really liked it. I personally wouldn't take a kiddo under about 6 though.

ETA: I definitely was glad we didn't splurge for 3d on this one. I think it would have been too intense and scary for her then.

Yes, especially in 3D. My DD8 did a little ear plugging/eye closing at the end. Not for too long, but the dragon scared her.

We went and saw it the night it came out in 3D. I thought it was a pretty good movie. You have to keep in mind that if you are expecting it to be just like the cartoon, you will be dissapointed. Tim Burton definetly put a twist to the old classic. It reminded me of what he did with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Only I liked this one better than Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It is a very good story, Just don't go expecting for it to follow the Alice and Wonderland that we all grew up with. DH took me for a date night, so we didn't have any kids, but there are some parts that would be very scary for a young child. I will say that Anne's character (the white queen) was probably my least favorite character. I thought she would be my favorite, but she actually was quite annoying in this story.

Oh goodness, that's so funny because we were saying exactly the same thing- about all of that; especially the Anne Hathaway character; she was so flat and one dimensional and didn't seem to "mesh" with the other characters, who were so richly "fleshed out" character wise to me. I didn't find her character sympathetic at all- I'm glad we weren't the only ones. However, we felt the rest made up for her (and I was really looking forward to her character, too)

That's so funny because I thought she was SUPPOSED to be one dimensional and flat- the point being that because she was the beautiful, favored child she never developed much of a personality.

I think she is suppose to be one dimensional and flat, but that wasn't the part that got me. I got that she was more protrayed as the beautiful daughter. What really got me was the way she walked!! I know that sounds funny, but I just wanted to yell out "Put your arms down and walk normal." LOL! I think she does it anytime she is around people, but I think I would get really annoyed if I was around someone who walked like that all the time. I think her character would have been better if she would have been more "real" in scenes when it was her with Alice and Friends. I really get where he was going with her character, but she was almost so fake that it really didn't do anything for me.

I agonized for days over whether or not DS3 (4 in May) could see this movie with us. I discussed it several times with DH and tried looking up parental reviews online. Most claim that the movie should be for ages 10 and up.

DH decided that he really wanted us to all go together and one of us would leave with DS if it was too scary/intense. I was expecting him to be sitting in my lap hiding his face, but he was never scared and didn't even want to hold my hand. I have a tendency to get anxious during intense parts of movies (even kids ones ), but there was nothing too scary about this one to me.


All three of my children (3, 5, and 11) enjoyed the movie. I wouldn't take a child who is easily frightened, but my kids all enjoy more intense/dark films.

We loved it and DD6 wasn't at all scared. I thought it was visually stunning and a really great representation of Wonderland, with a good story line. You do have to go in prepared that it is NOT a hapy, happy cartoon version. We are big Tim Burton fans. Loved NMBC Corpse Bride ect. . It is a bit dark, but so was the book. I think the white queen is suppoed to be a very one dimensional character. I wouldn't have hesitated to take my DD at 3, but she has always enjoyed this kind of movie. She is also the child who watched POTC with us at 4-5 and LOVED Avatar.
