I saw it and didn't like it too much. It isn't that I hated it, I just thought it was, well, lame. I just had way to high expectations going into it I guess. Its definitely not a good movie for little kids which is misleading since it has a PG rating.
I just want to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. And I took my three kids ages 3-9. They all enjoyed it too. We asked the 3 year old what it was about on our way home and she said, "It's about a girl who kills a dinosaur." That's pretty much the plot. With a lot of imagery, imagination, and literary referances. So I'm not sure what people are expecting but I thought it was a typical fantasy story and stayed true to the idea of Lewis Carroll.
I saw it this morning
I LOVE Depp
I did NOT however Love the movie....it was okay...I did not do the 3d/imax but that was not the reason...I guess I just expected more His part is not huge either....it was weird...but so is the story...Alice was Good......so for me a 6 out of 10 only cause of Depp...I am a Big fan of his

Thanks. We will probably see an afternoon show tomorrow! I think I will pass on 3D. The glasses aren't comfortable with my regular glasses on, and ds's tiny nose can't support 2 pairs either.
We just got back. We did see it in 3-D, and as soon as it started, I wished we hadn't. I think the glasses are distracting, maybe because I don't normally wear glasses. I found myself taking them off when I could.
I thought it was really good. Not as good as I expected (anticipated, wanted) it to be though. I'm not sure if it was just at our theater, but there were parts I had no idea what anyone was saying. Not just me either...at one point my DH, and DD both turned to me and said "what did he say"
I'm really glad we saw it. I think it was good, but had been waiting for it to be out for so long, that it didn't quite live up to the hype in my mind.
I know there are numerous threads going about this, but I thought I should post on mine. We saw it this afternoon and loved it. It was fun and not too dark or weird. It was just the right amount of Burton-ess! As for it being "scary", DD (8) is a little bit of a chicken (scared during parts of A Christmas Carol) but was totally fine with this movie. There was one part where I think she thought something was going to happen because she had her hands ready to cover her eyes, but it wasn't scary.

Was it the Jabberwocky? I only ask because, in the eighties (I think) there was an "Alice in Wonderland" made for T.V. movie, and all I remember (besides Carol Channing singing something about Jam tomorrow, Jam yesterday, but never ever jam today) is the Jabborwocky. That's when I became afraid of the dark. If that's the case, you have a very brave 3 year old, and this 30 year old tips her hat to her.
