Aldis

No checks, no credit cards. They take cash or debit cards only, which is a big pain. I don't do debit cards. To pay cash, I have to keep a running total of what I'm buying in my head while I shop.

They will take the debit card with the visa logo though. I never carry cash either

Tried the Cheddar Broccoli soup dry mix last night- it was great! Kids loved it too. Added a bag of frozen mixed vegetables, an bag of broccoli to it. But it was good!

Pumpkin spice cream cheese
Pumpkin spice coffee creamer
Pumpkin spice marshmallows

The pumpkin spice cream cheese is awesome! I also tried the seasonal salsa (sweet potato and cranberry) and used it as a topping for grilled chicken. My family enjoyed it. The pineapple Greek yogurt is awesome too.

Love the prices! As I mentioned, an Aldi's just opened near my office and I have been popping in more and more. I bought a head of cauliflower last week (we love roasted cauliflower, broccoli too) and I can't remember how it much it cost but I do know it was much cheaper than the Harris Teeter grocery store near our house.

If they put out coupons because of competition, they would surely have coupons in my area! Within about 3 miles, we have Aldi, Pathmark, KMart, Walmart, Shoprite, A&P, Costco and Target (although KMart, Walmart, and Target are not Supercenters, they do have some form of groceries/produce/meat).
There are things I would not buy from Aldi again but there are plenty of things I would (and do). Spaghetti sauce, frozen pizza (in the brown box a pp had mentioned), butter, pre-cooked bacon, fruit cups, applesauce cups, cake-type snacks, some of the produce, frozen individual stuffed chicken, frozen oriental meals, frozen fish, breakfast items (pastry tarts, waffles, french toast sticks) that I can think of right now.
I won't buy cold cuts, frozen chicken breasts or ground beef.

Things we buy at Aldi; milk, eggs, spices & seasonings, non-stick cooking spray, frozen chicken breasts, chocolate, bacon, some produce and seasonal items. This week I got a pumpkin for $2.49 and it is huge. Going back for 1 or 2 more today and to look for that pumpkin spice cream cheese everyone is talking about. Oh, we also like their ice cream but haven't bought any lately.

I'm resurrecting this thread to give my review of the new Aldis that just opened up near me.

Ice cream cones w/chocolate and nuts - $2.49 = DS(16) loved them, says they have chocolate down in the cone.

Milk - $1.69 (gallon)- haven't seen Milk that cheap in 15 years - good and so is the chocolate milk ($1.69 1/2 gallon)

Eggs - .79

Assorted Crackers - $2.49 6 assorted crackers that come in a recloseable plastic box - nice and they are good.

Wisconsin Sharp Cheddar - $1.79 (8 oz.) - really good.

Center Cut Bacon - $3.69 - splurged on the bacon - glad I did, it was good.

Big Buttermilk Biscuits in Can - $1.29 - look and taste as good as Grands.

Also bought can pumpkin for $.99 - looks like a Libby's Can with a different brand name. Also bought some vanilla extract for baking - $1.99.

Chips - kettle BBQ chips $1.69 - DS(16) likes them. Got some cheetos looking things $1.49 that were cheddar and jalapeno. DS says they are a little less hot than Cheetos and he would eat them instead of Cheetos.

Big Tex Honey Buns - $2.99 - very good, used to buy the same things at Sam's.

And a big can of Italian bread crumbs for $.89.

Spent $21.00 after my $5.00 coupon that came in the mail. Added up what the same stuff would of cost me at regular grocery store and it came to about $40.00.

So far, I'm very happy with everything that I bought. Can't wait to go back and try some other things.

.

If I ever decide to go there again I will try the ice cream. I have tried those biscuits and to me they were NOTHING like grands- didn't care for them at all.

If you are a fan of Nutella, our Aldi is now carrying their own brand for $1.99. It is really good! I only bought one to try it, because we had tried the Kroger version before and did not care for it. The Aldi one is much better! I went back for 3 more jars, LOL. Since Nutella is $4.39 at Kroger, it is quite a savings for us. :)

Where is the one in lewisville? I usually go to the one by Trinity Mills.

I had never been to an Aldi until a month ago, and now I do a fair amount of our weekly shopping there. :thumbsup2

We've been doing taste-tests and product tests, and these are the items that we like and that I continue to purchase there:

frozen Cozzi brand pizza (similar type to Tombstone brand)
the chocolate covered ice cream cones mentioned above
skim and 1% milk (the only negative is that they don't carry skim milk in gallons, only 1/2 gallons)
shredded Mexican blend cheese
cereals similar to Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Wheaties
sugar
eggs
instant coffee and powdered creamer (DH keeps this in his office at work)
salsa (we've tried, and like, the shelf version and refrigerated)
tortillas (we use these to make wraps, burritos, quesadillas, etc)
pasta (they have whole wheat, whole grain, and regular; we like them all)
Fit & Active yogurt (similar to Dannon Light & Fit)
Greek yogurt
toilet paper (the Charmin Ultra Strong knock off)
graham crackers (regular and cinnamon)
fresh chicken legs and thighs
fat free half & half
Low calorie drink packets (similar to Crystal Light On the Go)
paper plates (the Dixie knock off)
Chunky Soup: chicken corn chowder, clam chowder, chicken and dumplings
potato rolls (hamburger and hot dog rolls)
mayo
ketchup
spicy brown mustard
yellow mustard
pancake mix
real maple syrup
green seedless grapes
white potatoes
sea salt
pork tenderloin
natural peanut butter
wheat bread

That's all that I can think of right now. I was buying 93% lean ground beef from there too, but DH and DS each got a piece of gristle or whatever, so now they've deemed Aldi beef off limits. LOL Honestly, I've never NOT gotten tiny specks of gristle in ground beef on occasion, and I only buy 90% or 93% lean. But I humor them and buy fresh beef elsewhere. :rolleyes1

I also wish that they sold fresh whole chickens, but they don't. I'm not a fan of frozen.

I love saving an average of $60 per week so I plan to continue shopping at Aldi. ::yes::

They have pumpkin spice mini cupcakes 12 for $2.29 which are absolutely delicious.

Otherwise, I usually buy milk, eggs, fruit, veggies, pretzels, tortilla chips, tortillas, apple juice, vanilla wafers, graham crackers, apple sauce, sugar, oils, spices, cookie dough, pretzel dough ( i think this is new).

Thanks for the review, and I have to laugh...it's just up the street from me (Lewisville store)and I haven't had a chance to get in and try it. :)
