We've got a couple opening up near us! This is a BRAND new store to the DFW area, but I've seen some things mentioned on here about it.

Can anyone fill me in? Am I going to be in for some good deals?? I sure hope so!

yes we use them for the basics like eggs milk flour sugar etc... it like a whole store of genertic food.

you have to try the different stuff to see what u like, its had to find low price vegs all year around..but they got them...

lines are some times crazy, and you have to bag your own stuff, I just throw mine in the car with no bags and bag when i get home lol

Their prices are Incredible. The food quality is great, too.

One thing, though - they don't take checks or credit cards. Cash or debit only.

Bring a quarter for your cart (you get it back). Also either byo grocery bags or pay 3-5 cents a piece for them.

I stop by Aldi's for apples/bananas/grapes/oranges and other staples.

Aldi's is a German grocery store.

You need a quarter for a cart, you get it back when you return the cart.

Pay for bags, bring your own or sometimes they have boxes available.

Cheap produce, it would be good to know the days they get produce delivery - some locations the produce gets past prime quickly.

Look online for the special buys for each week they also have recipes/meal planners based on the products they carry.

They have a double your money back guarantee. ... bring it back, they will replace it and give your money back.

It's a good store to "fill in" for daily staples like produce and dairy.

Checkout .. the lines have been very fast for me :confused3
Put your stuff on the belt, they quickly scan and plop it in the previous person's cart. Use debit/check card or cash only (EBT accepted too) , slide your cart up to them for next person. Take your goodies and bag it yourself or push it out to your car. Bring the cart back to the entrance, snap the bike lock looking thing into the cart and out pops a quarter. We now keep a spare quarter in the cup holder of our car all the time.

Ya have to know your prices and what type of shopper you are... if you have a Super Walmart nearby, the prices may be similar or slightly less. If you coupon a lot, you might sneer at the prices because you know you can get it cheaper with sale and doubles... If you are the no hassle approach, just give me a good price and let me out of here kind of shopper -- you will love Aldi's!

:thumbsup2

So far I've liked their products,

:rotfl: With all of the mention of Aldi's on this board I'm starting to think that their promotion/sales department is lurking on the DIS.

Anyway, excellent for staples - I usually shop there once a week.

Ha, shoulda seen my hubby trying to get us a cart the first time we went,....I think his ego was a bit bruised by the time he finally gave up.:rotfl: Then some little old lady came by and sticks a quarter in the slot and wallah!!!....

I love Aldi's... Especially good prices on canned food (veggies, fruit, etc.) also have good deals on fresh fruit and veggiees. Milk is espcially good here our walmart it is close to $4.00 a gallon got it Tuesday at Aldi's for $2.79.

Aldi is GREAT. If people don't buy certain things, they stop carrying them, therefore shopping there is like voting on what they will carry.

I like thinking I have a voice at the grocery store!

I've got to give Aldi's a try one of these days...

For milk, though, our local grocery chain (Wegman's) carries it as a loss-leader. 1% is currently $1.79, so it's the only place (other than maybe BJ's) that I'll buy milk. It's just too cheap. I do SuperWalMart for staples like cereal and such, as it's often less than BJ's unless they're running a great coupon deal or something. :thumbsup2

Thanks OP for asking about this, and to everyone who has posted for the good info and tips!

I just started shopping there and find myself going back for things like
bagels, english muffins, cereals and snack food (think chex mix). Their blue corn toritilla chips are fantastic! I have fallen in love with their Lacura skin creams also! This week out of their specials I picked up toasted ravioli's and french toast nuggets, both are very good.

:lmao:

I made my hubby go one time when i was sick and it was his first/ last time he refuses to go... wait for it...... forgot to tell him about the .25 cart thing / little old lady took the last bag of potatoes that he put in his cart out of his cart and put it in hers, so he took it back she yelled at him... for the rest of the 10 mins that he was in the store :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao: man it still makes me lol to see the look of him after he got back."she took my potatoes"

but i have to give him credit he bought everything on the list, plus candy for the kids....

And don't forget their chocolate!!!!!!! Whenever we go to Epcot, I stock up on the German Choc. that we can't get here, and now with Aldi, it is right around the corner!!

the aldi by me usually has a short line so i use it for a quick veggie trip if im cooking. the prices are so low the first time i went in i seriously thought they forgot to ring stuff up. i have food allergies so i have only bought produce but i find the quality is the same as the regular store if im not buying that item organic.

We love Aldi but unfortunatley the closest one is 30 minutes away. (Wal-Mart is only 5 minutes). I try to hit Aldi's every few months and stock up on non-perishables. I usually leave with a case of green beans, lite canned fruits, and cooking soups like cream of chicken. I don't buy anything from the refrigerated section simply because of the distance to home.

You bag/box your own items. Either bring in your own bags or collect empty boxes from the store as you go through. Items are not stocked on shelves but in their shipping boxes.

It's a great way to cut grocery costs! The only things my family say they don't like from there are peanut butter and pop tarts! :)

My SIL is from Germany and was super excited when she saw we had Aldi's here in the states. She stocked up on alot of her favorites when she and my DB visited my folks.

We have been shopping there for some things, it's ok, cheap prices but it's not always the healthiest foods (ie, no whole wheat flour, or even unbleached unbrominated... its the cheap stuff with the chemicals in it). So I get things there that are comparable to what I would be getting at wegmans anyways like bananas, canned tomatoes, etc.....
