Aldi now taking credit cards!

I'm so excited over this it's pathetic.:rotfl:
HAha that's how I felt when I discovered this..... that's all it takes for me...:rotfl2: As for what I buy.... lots of things are excellent- I like the european style dark chocolate, the veggies and fruit are fine, the dry goods are fine(actually great) chips, like organic corn ships are great- sliced cheese/deli meat are fine- plain greek yogurt, almond milk, organic milk, almost anything except the meats.... I don't like most of the meats EXCEPT the OG ground beef, and sometimes a 'never any' whole chicken..... Love the frozen green beans, etc. pasta... but I only buy OG eggs,so have to go elsewhere for those... lots of GF products are amazing (yellow cake mix, bisquick type mix, brownie mix) I make these all the time for parties, cupcakes or pancakes, no one ever knows the difference..... and the nitrate free bacon is AMAZING.(too amazing lol)

so you had to have enough cash on you to shop there? I never heard of this ! ( we don't have this store in my state)

No, they just didn't accept credit cards.

Most people use debit cards there. They also accepted cash and food stamps.

They have some policies Americans aren't used to that keep costs down-- bag your own groceries, use a quarter to get a cart (so people return them to the store rather than having employees get them from the parking lot). Some people are turned off by that. I think it's more efficient and I like the lower prices.

Here's a recent thread with lots of suggestions about what products people like at Aldi:
http://www.disboards.com/threads/aldi.3481983/

They do have a lot of organic products and they are cheaper than the generic non-organic at my regular grocery store, so I usually buy those products at Aldi. (Canned beans, grains like quinoa/farro/etc, salsa, apple sauce, etc) I have also had good luck with their "nicer" cheeses. Guests always compliment them and assume they're much more expensive-- I just tell them they should start shopping at Aldi.

Hey, that's my old thread =). Glad it's getting some more use!

I did end up going soon after that thread, though I have not been back since. Not because I didn't like it, but because my last grocery day the majority of my list could not be bought there so it wasn't worth the extra trip. I plan on going Monday though! I REALLY liked them cornbread mix and hope they have it again. I also enjoyed the blueberries, canned fruit, and cookies I got. I did not like the granola bars though. They tasted stale right out of the box. Yuck.

What is "OG ground beef"? What is "'never any'" chicken?

I didn't know they had notate free bacon!!! I buy the nitrate free hot dogs at giant eagle. I love that they took dye out of all their products and hyrogenated oils- oh yeah hormones out of the dairy too. It's nice to not even have to look for those there. I have been buying more and more there.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but can you guys share what you will/ won't buy at Aldi? I have NOT had good luck with their meats but haven't tried any in the past 3 years or so. I mainly buy produce there and only if I am in the area for work. Am I missing any good products?

I buy greek yogurt, lots of organic produce, bags of dry lentils and split peas, pizza, flax seeds, hummus, saurkraut, chips, nuts, rice/grain blends. The only thing I've bought that I haven't liked are some cans of beans. The beans were all split and weird. I am vegetarian though, so I've never bought meat there...can't speak to the quality of it.
