Because one bottle of bourbon can do more damage than a bottle of Merlot.
That and the huge coolers of booze are my guess for the change. Disney can't afford this on so many levels.
Please no flame here, but how much do you really think some people will be adding to their bill by the end of the week? We are not heavy drinkers, but with the specials and wine by the bottle or even the wine packages, we have never been way over what we would have spent to buy on land, lug it around, (never mind the whole flying with it issue). I guess if you are buying a half gallon of rum for $10 (which is actually flavored vodka anyway) that is one thing, but for most even middle of the road wines, I have not seen a BIG premium over buying and the hassle of where and how to get it on board. Just curious what some people consider a big expense. i figure for us, may be a $50 difference, which in the scheme of things is well worth me not having to figure out what to do with it and carrying it around for 2 days....
We just got off the Dream. At the comedy show my husband ordered a Guinness. He'd ordered a few at other clubs on the ship and the price (with auto gratuity) was $ 6.00. The beer he ordered during the comedy show was $ 8.50 (for the same size).
Let's use $ 8.50 --- 2 a day on a 7 night cruise is $ 119.00.....
this is a very big deal for me. The alcohol policy was one of the ways I justified the DCL prices.
My FE each have 2 little bottles of vodka and rum in them. We have 30 cabins. I would assume that I can not take these aboard anymore either?
What on earth am I going to do with 60 little bottles? Yes, they will get used but I just bought the last 30 yesterday AM at the store...
Guinness in Evolution is on tap. Guinness at the bars is from a can. We've also seen them charge different prices for the same or similiar drinks at different onboard boars. But for some reason the Guinness price in Evolution is outrageous compared to the price of beer in other bars on the ship and on the Magic/Wonder.
that's disappointing - I would call and check before you dismantle them
If we're allowed to bring back from port then we can just buy at the first port for the rest of the cruise... right? I sure hope so...
Yep...it is correct. Here is the email I receievd back from Disney. I have until next April but I would be VERY upset if my cruise was this fall and they are just now telling people.
Anyone know who I can contact? Or has anyone asked this question yet? I don't want to have to dismantle 30 little bags in the port. I will carry them on and double bag them.
My intentions were good but there is no way my husband will give up his 6 cans of beer for these little bottles :0)
If you are upset about the policy change, please contact Disney Cruise Line and let them know...not that it will change things, but at least get your opinion out there to them. I just did.
If they are allowing one bottle of wine or a 6 pack of beer, they should allow one bottle of other liquor as well -- that is really all we ever brought, to enjoy a drink before dinner in our room. I don't really have a problem if they want to control the amount, just don't take it away completely.![]()
Hope so, too.
If not, bringing on a couple bottles of wine will suffice.
That statement about ports makes me wonder if decision isn't partly due to regs?
I asked about a change in regulations/statues/etc.... and the manager placed me on hold.... came back and gave me the info about increased damages to checked luggage and the cruise line trying to be fair.

Instead of implementing a fuel surcharge, they are changing their alcohol carry on policy perhaps?I think there is more to it than that...like money....![]()
