Alcohol before muster drill?

I took my first Disney Cruise in 2013 - I remember going to the pool bar on embarkation day and trying to order a drink, only to be told that they could not serve alcohol before the muster drill.

Is that true? I'm wondering if I misunderstood him. I was just looking at old personal navigators on DCL blog and a lot of bars seem to be open before the muster drill.

(my last cruise, I actually pre ordered a bottle of wine for my room so I could enjoy a glass on embarkation day, and I'm wondering if that is actually necessary)

Nope they will serve you. They will stop like 30 minutes before the drill.

PP is correct. Alcohol flows before the muster drill.

We relax in Crown & Fin after lunch on the first day, enjoying our first beverage of the voyage.

We always hit the Cove Bar right after lunch on embarkation day. The only trouble I have had was twice now I have been unable to get a BBC as they have not had the bananas on board yet. :rotfl2:

Agreed - after lunch I find a lounge chair up on the adult pool deck, grab a mojito, and enjoy the view and a book!

I have brought alcohol TO the muster drill! :rotfl:

And you certainly aren't the only one to do so. I've witnessed more than a few people with drinks at the muster drill. While I have never brought a drink to the muster drill, I have been known to quickly drain the remainder of a drink before heading to the drill.

Of course you can and muster is the best place to be tipsy. Parents at the back, kids at the front. Dads if your balance is off the dude beside you is also a dad, he's got your back. Worse case scenario this repeats itself all the way to the end where the last dad props himself, probably against his will, against a bulkhead :rotfl2: :teeth:pirate::drinking1:lmao:

Really not the right attitude for this. Muster is serious. I've been at muster drills where the captain won't release the passengers until EVERYONE quiets down and actually listens to the drill.

It's not a party.

On one of our cruises a few years ago, we were at our station waiting for the drill to begin. A couple showed up being loud and very drunk, stumbling with drinks in hand . They were taken away by who I assumed was security. I always wondered if they were allowed to remain on the ship or not.

Maybe the particular bar you went to wasn't open until after Muster?

Yes, the muster is serious but it's also... soooo boring... ppl who've cruised many times before are kinda familiar with it so I see nothing wrong in going to it in a relaxed fashion if you already know what's it all about...

And then it's OK for those who've "done it before" to be distracting to those who've never done it?

Plus, attending the drill only sets you up for knowing what to do in the event of an emergency. It's quite possible that someone who's "done it before" may not remember what to do in the event of a real emergency.

Who knows, maybe something changes? You wouldn't know, if you're not paying attention (and sober).

I have usually had at least one Drink of the Day by the time the muster drill starts!!

As long as it is not impacting my “enjoyment” of the muster drill, folks can be as tipsy as they want. I’ll be paying attention to ensure that I get premium seating on the lifeboat.

I don’t like being crowded into small spaces with lots of other people. Having a DOTD or two beforehand helps make the muster drill a little more bearable. ;-)
