And the latest is...they don't know!

Alberto has been giving them fits, as you would expect with a storm like this -- early season, poorly organized, weak, lots of shear. Tough one to figure. Best guess right now seems to be that Alberto will be right on the borderline between a Tropical Storm and a minimal Cat 1 Hurricane.

Landfall is now projected for tonight well north of Tampa. The landfall point is estimated to be in the area of Steinhatchee, but it's important to remember that the bad weather and storm effects will occur across hundreds of miles, and storm conditions will occur hours before the exact landfall.

The storm is increasing in forward speed, and the more it increases its pace, the less it will affect WDW.

I'm going to stop following it for now, but you can log onto the NHC site and see for yourself.

For accurate info without the hype, visit the National Hurricane Center website: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov

Thanks Jim!

I hope you will keep us apprised of the hurricane happs throughout the season. I'm invited to a shuttle launch in late August (2 week window) and have trips to Disney starting Sep4-11. Would rather NOT deal with hurricanes...so will you try to fix that for me , huh? :goodvibes

Thanks, Jim. You do such a great job of keeping us up to speed on hurricanes. Much better to log on and check your reports than turn on the weather channel, etc. :thumbsup2

We have a trip planned during hurricane season and more importantly our son and DIL live down there now, so I really appreciate your updates.

May all of you in hurricane regions escape any damage this season. :sunny:

We'll be there in 10 days thru half of July. You can be sure that I'm going to be watching the weather reports! :sunny:

My parents just moved to Florida two days ago (up between Orlando and Ocala) so I was hoping this one would just blow away and do no harm. A giant storm would be no welcome wagon for them!

Thanks for the info.

We just left Key West, FL yesterday, and are now at Marco Island. It's been raining all day (but on the bright side....thus time to DIS), and the local forecast is for 2-4 inches, heavy at times, and possible flooding in low areas.

We check into OKW next Sunday. Hopefully everything will blow over by then.

Meanwhile what we're getting today is basically going up the coast for the next few days.

I hope they do better with storm forecasts this year than they did last year.
I think the "wait and see" part pretty well sums it all up.

We leave tomorrow & while we're not worried about the rain or wind effecting our trip, we are a bit worried about our Illuminations Criose on Tuesday night......Yikes!

Thanks for keeping us up to speed, Jim! :thumbsup2

I know this is no where near New Orleans - but then Katrina was originally supposed to be a Florida hurricane.

I left New Orleans yesterday (a day early) and cleaned out my entire refrigerator. I've told myself that I am not going to leave any food there this summer period.

I drive so it is not that difficult to bring the food back to Arkansas in a cooler.

Good luck to us all this hurricane season.
