Alaska!

Those all sound great! I keep coming back to the floatplane idea for Ketchikan, but I’m terrified! I think my husband and kids would probably love it, though.
My son said yes even though he doesn’t like flying on a regular plane because of noise. I got him noise blocking headphones to wear. I booked our excursions with points thru Chase credit card.

We’re also on the 5/27 sailing. We’re doing a Chilkoot Charters tour with dog cart pull, a small boat whale watching tour directly in Juneau, and still trying to decide on Ketchikan. I also would like to try Tracey’s crab shack in Juneau. The problem will be pulling my teenager along because she doesn’t like seafood.

Did you buy the headphones specifically for this or will he get other use out of them?

Just asking because I would expect that they will provide some sort of head phone and it will be something the pilot can communicate to those on the tour. We have done a helicopter tour and an airplane tour on different trips to Hawaii and in prep for our upcoming Alaska cruise my friend shared his pics from a glacier flight and every one of them had similar headphones. Our son, who is not fond of loud noise, did fine on the volcano tour flight.

If you don’t really need them maybe you can return them or more importantly prep your son that they may have “special” headphones that the pilot can talk to you.

I know they have headphones to listen to the pilot. He’s 10, he doesn’t listen. ;)
Seriously though, he can wear them on all flights because he complains on commercial flights as well. Last flight he wore EarPlanes plus his regular headphones. I’ll bring them for the floatplane and let him chose.
