Looking at Alaska cruise next summer, 2A2K, wanting to pick my room Oceanview view on deck 2, Cat 9B. I only see this category as GTY rate, but Cat 9C there are rooms available. Is 9B is always a guarantee rate for Alaska sailings? When I change the search to 2A1K then I see rooms available for 9B. Is it because not ALL room in 9B can sleep 4 ppl? That happened to our booking last year as well, I am gold member, and booked on the opening day, I could only choose GTY 9B instead of choosing my room. At 60 days out from sail date I got the room assignment we had room 2106, which is the last room of this category 9B. As much as I would prefer more of a mid ship room, I wasnt thrilled about the location. Otherwise from the beginning I would just pick cat 9C and save even a few hundred bucks on excursion. Can someone explain how that work? Thanks.

Online, DCL only shows you a few rooms.
You can call to see if there are specific rooms available in the category you want (or contact your travel agent and give him or her all the room numbers you want, in order of preference).

There are only 4 rooms in the 9B category that sleep 4, located right next to the 9C rooms. Go with a 9C room instead. We've stayed in 2116 on the Wonder and 2108 on the Magic. Loved the location of both.

I cannot answer your question exactly, but we went last year 2A2K and we had 2510. I believe this room and 2512 have a little extra space because of the curvature of the boat. We were happy to have the space! Same would apply to 2010/2012. I think these are 9C.

Good to know this, so I know how to plan next time! Thank you

Yes, I think there's just not enough space in the ceiling midship to have the pull down bunks. Maybe pipes, electrical, etc from deck 3?
