The Grad Party was yesterday & it was hectic, but a major success. Awesome turnout with teens & adults & the boys Band Instuctor that they've had for 6 years came. We saw a family we haven't seen in years & it was nice to reconnect. I do have stamina issues & sometimes mobility issues, so I'm thankful that I was able to do all the cooking, help the boys with housework, attend vbs drama rehearsals, & ENJOY the party. I'm sure I had supernatural help with that!

Hoping everyone is having a wonderful weekend!! Here in Colorado Springs, the temps have been in the high 80's. We went straight from Winter into Summer, 2nd year in a row.

They say I have been approved because the hold is off of it and that they are processing it....but they have been processing it for over 8 weeks...so let's get

Glad to hear the party went well...it's fun and hectic planning it but when it is over and everyone is gone and you sit down and say " glad that's over but it was fun" feels so good...that sigh of happiness that it is finally over.

I am so glad your boys graduated...can you send us a picture of them in their cap and gowns?
I just hired someone that will be helping us with all the stuff needed for apply to colleges...my head was ready to pop with all the details...she will help us with everything ....when she left I saw the sun rise

Anyway I am ready to rock and roll getting everything for the trip ready and can back off on this college stuff taking up so much time...and I love summer....yay me!

An idea popped into my head this weekend...while making FE gifts... What would the group say about putting together a "power of ten" donation from our group? We've got at least 10 FE participants... I think it would be cool to put a group together and mail checks collected off to the Dis podcast crew... Not to mention a good chance of getting a shout out on the podcast. Any thoughts ?

More about the Power of 10 or more about the idea??

My first thought is to take whatever you were gonna spend on FE gifts and only spend half. Donate the other half. I don't think we want to take away all the FE gifts. That's part of the fun of the cruise, but it wouldn't hurt to cut back on them a little.

I guess I might have been for it had we made the decision before as I have already gone out and spent the $$, so I couldn't cut back at this point.

Hi All!

I like the idea of spreading the goodness around but also agree with Kim as I have already spent on my FE goodies and it would be a little hard, (not to mention wasteful as it would only mean items wouldn't get given out) at this point for me to cut the budget.

I do have an alternative suggestion... How about doing a 50/50 drawing at our meetup. I have run them for numerous groups and have found them to be a fun, painless and easy way to generate funds for worthy causes and they have been pretty lucrative for the groups involved as well.

For anyone who doesn't know what they are, you give out raffle tickets (usually $2 each or 3 for $5) and then when the winning number is chosen they receive half the take and the charity gets the other half. Just a thought.

It is a shame that the idea didn't come up sooner, but in order to have head me off the spending path in time it would have needed to happen about a year ago.

Oh and about the chat, the DH and I will be on our 8th anniversary trip from the 18th to the 20th so those days would be out for me and I am photographing a graduation for some friends this Thursday but otherwise I am open.

Making this chat thing easy?? Sorry, Here comes one of the wrenches in the easy plan. I co-lead a small group on Tuesday nights & wouldn't be available till 9 pm (mountain daylight time) at the earliest.

But if that works better for everyone else please go ahead with Tuesday nights. Allen & I are going to be leaving in 4 1/2 weeks anyway & I wouldn't be doing the chat once we leave.

Do we have a dismeet planned yet. If so I forgot when & where.

I think the idea of sending a check which would have no impact on our personal FE plans but would be a darn nice thing to do, is a good one. The only tiny fly in that particular ointment for me is the pact that I do not personally have or use paper checks at all. So, if there is a Paypal option that would make it possible for me to participate.

I am happy to participate in the Power of Ten and think it should have no effect on the FEs. That is just my opinion.

I was furthering thinking that Schachteles' organizational skills might be a natural overlay -- i.e., that who ever wanted to participate in the donation would put a check or a $ 10 bill in an envelope and slide it under Schachtels' door when doing an FE drop there. Then, at the end of the cruise, we could send it in to the podcast crew with a cover letter.
