Alaska on July 19th, 2011 "Where a good tan is hard to find"

Glad to hear that all you needing passports/cards are receiving them. Robin, hopefully yours will come soon too.

lol...DH was right....they sent me a letter telling me that my DL with both my last names was not good enough so they needed more to prove that i am married with the last name campbell....so i sent them like 6 different thigs so they dont keep asking me to prove who I am.....my DL has my name as Robin Eberle-Campbell.....you would figure that that would be enough...but NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Hopefully they will get it all worked out and send me my $%^# passport :rotfl2:

I was hoping for a possible upgrade at the port. I've been reading how people have been scoring verandahs for around $500 during checkin for the May Alaskan cruises. I just checked Disneycruise.com & our week isn't coming up any more so I guess our cruise is sold out. Darn, no upgrade for us. :sad2:

don't count yourself out till the end....some people still end up having to cancel....mostly in this economy. If I dont get my Passprot my cabin/veranda will be empty  :lmao:

Noooooooooo! That would be too sad :sad1: Robin I'm sure you're passport will come in time. :thumbsup2 It just has too!

I have tried to pull it up too and I haven't seen anything for a long time! An upgrade sure would be nice but of course we already have a verandah so there isn't really anywhere to go.

FYI...I took care of my prepaying of tips, when the TA called it in to Disney, she was notified that there was a change in the taxes, so we had a credit of like $27.40 (or something like that), so they were able to apply that to the tips. Nice surprise!

Hi all ....I have a new toy...I got the iPad yesterday and it is so much nicer to carry around than my laptop. Will be great when on vacation. I got the first addition 34gb just with wifi....did not need the 2nd addition or want to pay for the 3G either...does anyone else have one?

Hi Robin!

Welcome to the fold... I have had my 64gb WiFi only iPad since they came out (actually one month after they came out but close enough :-). I am passionately in love with the thing. I do think that they are a form of digital crack however, because my iPod Touch led to my iPad which led to my iMac which led to my second iPod Touch which led to my iPhone which led to my Macbook Pro...

So, if you are not already on the Apple cart I can assure you that you may very well be hitching a ride soon :rotfl:

If you haven't already purchased the Camera Connection kit, I HIGHLY recommend that you do so. It is useful not only for importing photos from your digital cameras (via either the usb port connector or the dedicated SD card connector), you can also use the USP port connector to connect other items to your iPad as well (like a corded Apple keyboard for instance).

Also, if you purchased the item new, or if it is within one year of it's original purchase date you can add an Applecare warranty which extends your manufactures warranty for an additional year and covers pretty much anything that can happen to your new toy.

There are also a TON of great apps which you may find fun and useful and a couple of nifty tricks (like how to make a DISboards icon so that you can just click that and go straight to DISboards without having to go through Safari first). If you are interested, let me know and I will be happy to share what I have learned.

I currently have 479 Apps installed on mine and seem to add more every day.

Oh, and before I forget, there is a great FREE program called Handbrake which is available for Mac, and Windows, that lets you take any DVD you own, including copy protected DVD's and convert them to allow viewing on your iPad. You won't be able to "copy" them to put them on another cd or dvd so you aren't pirating them, but you will be able to convert the format to and iPad friendly form. Great for movies for the kids (and grownups) for long car, bus, train or plane rides. Oh, and did I mention that it is free and super easy to use?

Video does eat a lot of space but, having movies on your iPad is just really sweet.

I haven't upgraded my iPad yet as I have not needed to have 3G on the device. I had a MiFi (personal portable WiFi hotspot) but have since converted one of my cellphones to the iPhone 4 which has the Personal Hotspot feature built in. So, if I need to use the internet on a bigger screen, or if I want to answer email, etc, I can use the iPhone as my internet connection.

I am glad you got your new toy and am super sure that you will enjoy it more and more the longer you play with it. If you connect with me during some downtime on the cruise (perhaps when we are sitting at the port waiting to board :-) I will be happy to show you some nifty apps you might like as well.

Clearly, I can drone on and on about the wonders of the device (I am currently preparing to teach a class at my Real Estate office on how to better utilize the device and on apps), but I will cut it short so as not to bore the rest of the group :-)

Oh, and I am keeping my fingers crossed that your passport will just show up in your mailbox in the next week or so.

Again, congrats on your new toy. Take care, help lots of people and have a "Wonder"ful day!

Thanks Tisza....I can use all the help I can get. I was going to get the 64 GB but they were all out and only had the 34 left.....I could have gotten it cheaper through Amazon but decided to get it at Best Buy...its local and if anything happens to it I can bring it there. I hope 34 is enough:idea: what do you think since you are a pro at it.

Thats a lot of Apps....I have spent the day today going over apps and wow.....I knew there were a lot but wow. I loke the free ones :lmao:

What is the average movie DL in GB? I may want to DL one or 2 for the plane.....may just DL games for the boys. I do have a question.....when I DL a movie....and pay for it...does it stay on there as a saved or just on there as its being viewed than its gone?

How about HBO? do you have the HBO on the Go? and if so...does that also DL and stay or does it work like on Cable with HBO that you pay for it ahev 24 hrs to view than it is gone......

What are your favorite apps? and as for the stuff for the Camera I was going to get that also. :thumbsup2

Hi Again,

Well, 32 GB is what you have and depending upon what you plan on doing with it will be a good start. If you are not going to load it with tons of large photo or video files then that should be more than enough space. Funny to think that the first computer I bought for myself in 2001 was only a 40 GB hard drive and I thought I was stylin' :lmao:.

I bought my iPad at Bestbuy as well reasoning that I would pay the same no matter where I got it, but if I got it there and had the purchase applied toward my Rewardzone points and since that gives me a rebate it would be like getting a discount on the purchase. Actually, I bought mine as an open box item so it was discounted because of that. Fortunately, it hadn't actually been used only opened so I got a discount for letting someone else slit the plastic.

Video files are large and can take up major space, anywhere from 1 to 10 GB or more. That is one of the reasons why the Handbrake program is so useful as it will help to reduce the file size as much as it can be while still maintaining the quality of the file.

As for downloading films from iTunes, it depends upon whether you rent or buy the video. Rentals will stay on your device for a limited amount of time and will disappear from your iPad on their own when the rental period expires. The good thing about the rental is that you are limited by time not viewings and the rental period starts when you first begin viewing the film. A purchase will stay affiliated with your iTunes account even if you delete or remove the film from your iPad.

That holds true for apps as well btw. If you "purchase" an app (paid or free), as long as you have synced your device before the deletion, if you remove an app from your device it stays in your iTunes account and you can always put it back on your iPad.

Also, when you download an app into your iTunes account every device that is affiliated with that account (as long as the app works on that device as some apps are iPad only and some are iPad 2 only) can use the app without additional purchase. Cool huh?

As for getting free apps, I am very much a believer and a proponent of that activity. Some of the apps that I have used to find all the great free apps are: Daily App Dream; FreeAppADay; App Deals; Apptizr; AppSniper, AppFree, Appsfire and AppShopper. A couple of these will cost you a dollar or two but will repay their purchase price a hundred fold.

I don't have HBO so I can't speak to HBO on the Go, but I have heard good things about Netflix.

There are a couple fun apps which I enjoy. One is called StumbleUpon and the other is Wimp.com. Both are apps which tie into websites and both can be a great way to waste a whole lot of time :rotfl:.

Oh, and one of the best news/magazine/social media apps that I have found is an app called Flipboard.

Disney has a great app which combines video along with games suitable for all ages (truly!).

By the way, if you want to make DISBoards (or any other web page for that matter) into an icon on your dock (this works on iPod Touch and iPhones as well :-) use Safari to get to the webpage you want and once you get to the page, at the top of the screen there is an icon that is just to the left of the address bar (not the Google box) that looks like a box with a black arrow in it. if you tap that icon a drop down menu will appear and it will have four choices: Add Bookmark, Add to Home Screen, Mail Link to this Page and Print. if you choose Add to Home Screen a box will open up showing a preview of the icon and you can Choose the name of the icon. Click the blue "Add" button and voila! A custom icon that will take you to where ever you want!

Oh and one other thing that is a really must know but isn't explained well... How to reboot your iPad. (You should do this when you have added new apps, especially if they are large or not behaving properly or if you are having issues with things crashing.) Simultaneously hold down both the round wake/home button and the power button on the top edge of the machine until the iPad goes all the way through the "Turn Off" slider. Continue holding down the buttons until the apple logo comes up and then release them both and you will have successfully rebooted your iPad (or iPod Touch or Iphone).

Again, enjoy your new toy. I am sure that by the time our trip date arrives you will be an old pro and will probably be able to teach me a thing or two!

Take care, help lots of people and have a "Wonder"ful day!

Does the ETicket app work on the iPad?

Does the ETicket app work on the iPad?

Hi!

According to the App Store it is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad and requires iOS 3.0 or later. Also, since it is a GPS enabled tool it will also require an internet connection to work. Which means that where an iPad is concerned, it would probably need to be a 3G iPad and not just WiFi.

The recent reviews for the eTicket app for WDW are not great 130 ratings, 30 5-Star, 37 1-Star and the balance evenly split 21 2, 3 & 4 - Star ratings averaging out to 3 - Stars overall. Not horrible, but not enticing especially when it is priced at $5.99.

Disney World Lines from TouringPlans.com gets 5 stars overall from 128 reviews. It is a companion to a membership site which I know nothing about. On the up side, the app is free, on the down side the membership is $10.99/yr. It will require a 3g connection or access to a portable WiFi in order to work.

There is another app from VersaEdge Software Disney World Wait Times Free. 542 ratings for an overall 5 - Star rating. I would go with this one personally. The developers have other apps for your WDW experience as well.

A quick search will show 75 Ipad specific "Disney" apps and 144 Iphone Apps.

I hope that helps! If you have any other questions I will be happy to try to answer them.

Take care, help lots of people and have a "Wonder"ful day!

I was really just talking about using Eticket to access the disboards.

I guess I went straight to overkill :rotfl: I don't use it (Eticket) so I can't say. I either go in through Safari or through the hotlink/icon I have set up on my iPad and that works just ducky!

Take care,

Tisza

I bought Eticket just for the mobile access to the disboards. I'm not impressed with the rest of the app.

I'm not ready yet. :lmao:

You will be! I have started pulling things, made my DH try on clothes this weekend. It will all come together. But looking at what I have pulled so far, we are going to have a LOT of suitcases!

I guess I better finish working on our FEs today (after I finish editing our podcast). I got sidetracked by a week in Florida. :)

I still have to finish my FE stuff...I have probably an hours worth of work for the men's gifts and a LOT on the women's...hopefully the rest of my supplies will come soon!
