Alaska on July 19th, 2011 "Where a good tan is hard to find"

Wow 200 days!!!

I found the DCL website much more difficult to work with this time around. In the past, the excursions were set up by cruise, not drop down menu for all excursions. Just more tedious and time consuming. I really enjoyed when we used to get the little book with all the excursions. Now I find that I waste a lot of paper and ink deciding on which to do as it is much easier to compare in print instead of on a computer screen.

Maryann, I totally agree with you. Since these excursions are uncharted territory for me it's even more difficult to navigate & time consuming as you said. :confused3

I found most of the headache trying to get back to where I was before clicking on the excursion to see what it was about. Every Time I would click back it brought me back to page one instead of back to page 3 where I left.....also would find that it was on a different port and not always the port I was on.

Seems they have some glitches to work out.

We would love to do the helicopter ride and dog sledding....just cant seem to get myself to spend that for such a short time. Heck we could go on another vacation for that amount of money...lol...after tip and DH also being over the set wt, it would be at least 3,000 bucks...for what is it 5 hrs or less.....I think I would rather put that towards another cruise.

I think if it were just me and DH we would do it....save half the bucks.

But there are many other things we want to do. and it will cost at least 1,000 for each excursion per family(Around $250 each) for the ones that seem to be exciting.

Also remeber we are going to take the train up to Whistler stay for 4 days and do white water rafting and stuff...and also 3 days in Vancouver prior...so that is costing a pretty penny also. If not for that than we might have looked at the other a little differently.

The time will start zooming by from here on out...before we know it we will be saying our goodbyes when getting ready to fly out...than back here to talk about how great it was.....I can hardly wait!:yay:

I'm glad that it wasn't just me that found the website hard to navigate with excursions. I was asked to complete a survey about the website while I was floundering and I told them exactly what problems I was encountering. Maybe that will help fix it.

Robin, is it just me or is your Alaska ticker off? I think it said 358 days? Not sure if you want to be there at that time of year :lmao::lmao:

It has been on page 1 since Tom gave it to us months ago....if you need it again you will see it right above our cruise "Itinerary" :thumbsup2

Happy New Year to all!

Has anyone narrowed down their excursion list yet?

I think I've pretty much decided ours:
Skagway: 4X4 Mountain Trail through Disney (hopefully!)
Juneau: Whale watching with Harv and Marv
Ketchikan: We're not booking an excursion here; we'll simply do the walking tour and enjoy the town. At least that's the plan for DH and me, the boys might decide to book an excursion for the two of them.

Anyone else?

I forget about all the great info on Page 1. Now that the cruise is getting closer, I mean to check it out again. Thanks for the reminder!

Just to update for JoAnn. They wound up driving down to WDW as their flight was ultimately cancelled. They are there and happy. Not sure about their luggage, though. But I'd rather be in WDW without luggage, than be here under over a foot of snow!

but wanted to say hi to you MaryAnn.....saw your name on the thread - wishing you and Tom a Happy New Year - we are 'trying out' the Disney Dream this summer...on July 19! Can't believe it is the same date! OK, I'm done crashing your thread....take care, Lucy (JoAnn's buddy!)

Has anyone given thought to what excursions they are doing now that Disney has released theirs?

I'm kinda bummed we have the later docking time in Ketchikan. I'm thinking we will be doing a helicopter glacier tour in Juneau, I'm even thinking about one of the dog sledding tours. In Skagway we are considering the white pass railway and in Ketchikan I would like to do a bear excursion, but I'm not sure there is enough time if I book with an independent tour operator.

I feel like there is so much I want to do that I will need to book another AK cruise in the future.

I think out of the ones offered one of them starts with our cruise date, I would like to hire someone independent, but we are there for such a short amount of time, it makes me nervous.

Hi Lucy!!!!! You can "crash" our thread anytime. We are a friendly bunch! Can't believe we are cruising on the same dates. Sure we can't lure you to Alaska???? Think of the fun we would have all cruising together again! I do envy you on the Dream, though. :cloud9:
