Alaska on July 19th, 2011 "Where a good tan is hard to find"

Is the May deadline for the FE sign up firm? :sad1:I have been trying to navigate the site and only found this thread today. I am going to be on this cruise and would love to join if at all possible....
:banana::cool1::woohoo: welcome

:boat::welcome:

Welcome Aboard, Larissa!! :cheer2: Rooting for an exception for you & FE too.
:thumbsup2:thumbsup2. I still have not gotten my FE stuff yet so I am all for it:thumbsup2

:goodvibesThanks! I really appreciate it.

Here are the people in my room:

Kayoko (age 78)
Larissa (age 17)
Tori (age 12)

I'll have to get the room number from my dad, but I will get it to you ASAP (tonight, I hope).

Could someone please explain how exactly this FE thing works? I think I've got it, but I just want to be 100% sure.

Thanks again!

Hi All!

I also am pleased to not only welcome Larissa and her family but to enthusiastically include them all in the FE Gifting (boy, sometimes it really does pay off to be the overplanning sort :-).

As for the question about how FE's work, bear in mind that this is the first time that I will be participating but here is what I understand (I am sure anyone will correct me if I am wrong :-). After finding and joining your meet thread and signing up to participate in the FE your cabin number, names, ages and gender are all added to the list of participants. If you or anyone in your group is celebrating anything special please include that info as well.

Then, peruse the list of the other folks playing along and come up with something to gift others with. As far as the what to give part is concerned, there don't appear to be any rules about what is right to give nor about minimum or maximum value. Then, depending upon the consensus of the other group participants you will either deliver your goodies to the other folks on a schedule or when the mood strikes you. Currently, our group is in the process of making the decision about scheduled delivery times versus random whatever works for you times. Stay tuned for the outcome.

Oh, I almost forgot an important part of the process, the FE (or Fish Extender) itself. A search here in the archives will give you ideas for what has been given in the past, what to give now. You will also be able to find simple instructions for how to construct your very own FE.

Then, sit back and enjoy getting the goodies from your fellow DISboard Cruisers and giving them as well.

I hope that helped.

Robin - Any word? I am keeping the faith...

I am having a hard time keeping my eyes open so I had better wring off for today.

Take care all, help lots of people and have a "Wonder"ful day!

Hi Again,

I just noticed that our cruise is now but a mere 40 days away. Suddenly that doesn't feel far at all. Amazing what a difference a day makes, right?

Have a great night/day/morning!

My room number is 6600 (the people in my room are mentioned above).

Welcome!! We will get you added to the sheet.

I haven't heard from many people, but we do need to decide if we want to assign days for people to do their FE gifts to or leave it open to do it whenever...thoughts?

I vote we just leave it open.

That's fine with me....man oh man I am really procrastinating on squaring up this trip....it will get done but sure taking me time to do stuff :lmao:

I think it also has to do with not having my PP yet...kinda takes some energy out of my game plan...you know as if it is not yet a for sure think...even though I am sure it will eventually get here.

I think I'll go to Michaels arts and crafts today to get the stuff needed to change my FE...also finalize my plans in Canada for stuff were going to do. Like in Whistler....can't decide what we ant to do....for sure white water rafting and instead of doing the regular zip line like we have done before they also have one with this real cool obstical course ....him that spelling does not look right...well anyway...have a great day and check back later :goodvibes

Hi All!

I second the vote to leave it open:). Robin - Anything yet? Hoping today will be your day...

Take care all, help lots of people and have a "Wonder" ful day!

I vote to leave it open as well.

If you are going to be near Whistler Village, you should check out the Great Glass Elevator candy store. In the upper village there are also some cool activities for kids as well (bungee trampolines, horses, trapeze things and stuff last time I was there).

Oh! If you are going to be in Vancouver you might like to check out the Museum of Vancouver (http://www.museumofvancouver.ca/) or the Maritime Museum (to go with the whole nautical theme...). The former is bigger and you feel more immersed in the time, so to speak. The latter is quite small and cute.
The Burnaby Village Museum is not in Vancouver, but has a lot of old houses, stores, etc from the area as well as a beautiful, lovingly restored antique carousal that you can ride. There is a restored train too, I think(http://www.burnabyvillagemuseum.ca/). It is their 40th anniversary this year and I think admission might be free through to October, so that might be worth the distance. Being a "village" so to speak there is a bit of outdoor walking, so if it is raining you may want to wear boots and bring an umbrella.

I've been to all three museums and like them all. Another thing that might be interesting to look at would be the Capilino Suspension bridge if you are not afraid of heights. And don't miss the fabulous Sea Wall!

Yay!! :cheer2: So glad your passport came!!!!! By Docs do you mean cruise docs? If so I think you're the first one on our cruise to report receiving them. Wow, congratulations on your kids GPA's - that's fantastic & I bet you are quite the proud mama. :goodvibes

Allen & I will be doing the Capilano Suspension Bridge & Grouse Mountain too. Just not sure if we're going to do them on different days & take our time or if we'll try to do them both on the same day.

Hi All!

Well, Robin if all of your good news doesn't deserve a rousing Disney Cheer I don't know what does so...

All Together Now... "Yeah Mickey, Yeah Mickey, Yeah MICKEY MOUSE CLUB!"party::jumping1:

I don't think the mail has come for us yet today or if it did I didn't have anything in it yet but I am keeping my eyes peeled.

And speaking of Alaska... My Darling DH (because I really think the "D" stands for Disney...) finally found our long missing Alaska by Cruise Ship Tour book which I purchased ages ago. I thought it would give me an opportunity to get a jump on researching excursion options including costs. And, it would have, had I been able to look at it at any time prior to making most of our decisions. :lmao: On the up side, it does have some terrific suggestions for things to do that aren't quite beaten path items and are for the most part cheap or free. I will post a list including any contact information as soon as I can pull one together.

I also need to make a fairly substantial investment in ink for my printer because I am starting to gear up to make magnets and since I will be making sets for all the doors in my group, that is going to be quite a bit of ink and paper.

I am also going to print out a set of Navigators to start to get an idea of what we might want to do on the ship and when it might be occurring. I know that they can throw us a curve ball with the schedule but I think that if I at least have an idea of what I might want to do it will be helpful. And, hey if I am not obsessively planning each and every living, loving minute beforehand whatever would I be doing with myself for the next 39 days, right?

Oh, regarding our cruise meetup, are we going to do a white elephant gift exchange? Are we planning to wear anything to make ourselves easier to identify? Perhaps a green ribbon pinned to our shirts? Are we going to be able to hit the spa raffle for those of us who like to try to win things? It is a must be present to win thing and a free massage would rock my world.

On a different topic, are any of the folks in this meet thread pin traders? Any Jiminy Cricket fans? I still have bunches of stuff left over from when I worked for the company (I helped in the very early design phases for some of the Environmentality cast member award pins). If there are, I will happily bring some extra items along to share/swap if anyone is interested. PM me to let me know or pop a comment here in the thread, either one works for me.

Again, Robin I am TOTALLY THRILLED for all your good news!

Ahh, well my webinar is about to begin so I will write off for now.

Take care all, help lots of people and have a "Wonder"ful day!

I was checking the spreadsheet and noticed that under 'Adults' in my room it said "Kayojo"...can it please be changed to "Kayoko"? Thanks!

P.S. I also have some family in other rooms, a DU(ncle), DA(unt), DM(om) and DDad. I don't know if we can include them under my name or not. If not, that's alright because it is already past the deadline and I didn't put them in my original post.
