Alaska: Hubbard and Tracy Arm

I know Hubbard is new, but I noticed that the 9-day doesn't actual have debark times for those two ports. Anyone have experience with either or both that can tell me what I can expect? I was looking forward to walking on a glacier.

Tracy Arm is a cruise day, not a port day. So no debarking there. Don't know about Hubbard.

Hubbard is sea day- viewing on other cruiselines, I think.

They aren't ports; they are areas you are cruising that are very pretty. You are going to have to book an excursion to go on a glacier, like the dogsledding on the Mendenhall Glacier.

Hubbard Glacier is beautiful - we sailed RCCL and viewed Hubbard years ago. Both Hubbard Glacier and Tracy Arm are scenic days - no debarkation.

You need to book one of those flight tours to walk on a glacier.

Don't think you want to go swimming in Tracy Arm or Hubbard on your scenic cruise day. Juneau's Mendenhall has staff bringing chunks of ice to visitor center to touch (you don't want a selfie with your tongue on it).

There doesn't seem to be a comparable itinerary on another line though to compare it to. I see a great itinerary on RCCL in May and Sept. that's even a little better, but we can't sail in those months because of school.

Look at the price per night when doing a comparison. If you aren't happy with the price, consider a 7 night Glacier Bay cruise on another line. I have been to Glacier Bay on NCL and Tracy Arm on a small boat excursion, and while Tracy Arm is beautiful, Glacier Bay is even more so. If you want a nine day trip, you could always add a couple of extra days exploring the port.

I'm on the same cruise. Icy Point port times are listed online. 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This is a tender port.

I swear I read this in an article about how there was a big hullabaloo in the town as to where it should be located....where it ended up (supporting the cruise dollars) or somewhere else that would have been more convenient for commercial vessels.

don't know how to post a link but I found it. google "dock at icy point". You'll find an article about how it was scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2015. And how because they don't have their own tender vessels, ships that didn't carry their own tender boats (Disney) wouldn't stop there prior to the dock being built. The town is actually Hoonah. I think Icy Strait Point is just one area of it?

I did see another line that has activities on land for that stop. It sounds excellent. I cannot remember which line. I tend to look at Princess and Celebrity, so probably one of those.

Yes. I believe that it's supposed to be one of the best ports for viewing grizzlies and whales. And that there may be an option to fly over Glacier Bay; I think that is also available in Juneau but I am not certain. Alaska is all new to me so I'm booked and now have 12 months to research....
