Alaska Cruise

We are planning to cruise Alaska in summer 2006. Since Disney does not go there, we are looking for alternatives.

I know that there are a lot of cruises available to Alaska. Can any of you experienced cruisers tell me of the best cruise lines? Also, some of my daughters' friends (age 17 & 18) want to go, so we will need one of the more reasonably priced options, since they will really be on a budget (as we will).

I'm hoping to cruise Alaska in 2007 for my 50th birthday.
One cruise line I'm looking at, unless Disney can get a boat there, is NCL. The prices look pretty reasonable and they appear to go where I want to go. The one I'm really interested in is a 11 day for around $1300. I've heard good things about NCL so that's why I've been looking into them more. Not sure about stuff for older kids but you can get a book of their cruises from their web site.

I'd recommend an outside balcony for you, and an inside cabin across the hall (cheaper) for the girls.

There are quite a few good options for Alaska ... but a great deal will depend on your needs, desires, expectations, etc.

Princess, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Celebrity, Carnival...most sail to Alaska. I would go to www.expedia.com just to see what's out there. I would also check out www.cruisecritic.com for loads of info about ports, cruiselines, and very informative discussion boards.

We did the Diamond Princess r/t out of Seattle, WA to the Inside Passage last June. We had a great time . We booked a balcony and were upgraded to a full suite. The room was hugh. We went to Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, and Victoria. Since we are Disney fans , we flew from Seattle to Orange County, CA and stayed at Disneyland for 3 nights before flying home to NJ.

FWI...there is a book that you can buy that talks about all the excursions you can do on your own at the ports. Don't have it available right now as I"m in the middle of packing, but I found it very imformative.

We went to Alaska on HAL's Amsterdam out of Seattle. Loved it. Did that cruise before our Disney cruise. HAL isn't Disney, but it's close.
